Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor Logo
Lbuonome Posted on Jan 20, 2013

I have a Samsung LED computer monitor (model S23A300B). The monitor connects to my Macbook air. The Samsung monitor recently stopped showing the picture on my laptop. Instead, red, green, blue and white horizontal stripes flash on an off of the screen. Any help? Is this fixable?

I have the identical monitor to you, and the identical symptom; it flashes red/green/blue/white, then white, then bright white, then black. Through a combination of luck, insight, observation and brilliance, I discovered that it's something broken with the analogue input that puts it into a test mode of some kind. I switched to the digital input, and it works fine. I think the same would happen for you.

Try the plugging the setup into a different monitor to eliminate the lead however it sounds like the monitors died. With cost of screens even if you can get hold of one you'll be better off getting a new monmitor.

SOURCE: Pink horizontal stripes on my monitor

If youve tried pressing the degaus button on the monitor and the same result then either your graphics driver is corrupt and needs to be updated from the manufacturer web site or the monitor is on it's way out. Try a friends monitor on your system or your monitor on a friends, if it's the same on a friends ststem, it's a belated Xmas present for yourself.

SOURCE: Black Out

Hi Detrix, Check with www.lcdrepair.net if you want a repair. Something is wrong with your LCD controller and or GUI interface circuit or the circuit supplying power to it. If your technically endowed, you may want to open the monitor case and clean the dust and lint from around the circuits using a Small paint brush to sweep away any built up dust. These circuits take the Signal from the computer and controls the 2.5 million pixels on the LCD screen. Dsut can cause major problems with handling all that data. Give it a shot, what do you have to loose, its not dangerous if the monitor is unplugged.

My Mac air will turn on but it turn off automatically in few seconds

Try first an SMC Reset:

SMC reset
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

If this does not work then you need to take it to your seller or to an Apple store for them to check it out. You are probably out of warranty judging from your model number so not much they can do.

HELP! bought a BX2450 Samsung monitor and it`s not showing full resolution, i need a driver for my macbook pro 13` (mid 2010) anyone????

I have a very strong suspicion that you are connecting your Macbook Pro to the VGA input on the monitor instead of the HDMI.

Your Macbook Pro uses the Mini Displayport connection type. Are you using a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter? If not, purchase one and that will resolve your issue.

If you are already using a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter, make sure your resolution is set to the maximum (1920x1080 according to Samsung's website) in Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Display.

If available, select the 'Best for Display' option which should automatically set the maximum resolution for the display. If not, select 'Scaled' and choose 1920x1080.

Won't display 1920x1080

I think you could have loaded the driver for a different model with 16:10 aspect ratio. Uninstall that driver.

Can you connect using the DVI port - get a DVI cable if your computer has a DVI port. If your computer has HDMI get a HDMI-DVI cable. DVI port will display max resolution - even without driver.

I'm not sure about the key combination, but try F2 or F4 with Function/options key.

Using a Sony Bravia HDTV as a monitor for a Macbook Air

Hey RHSully,

In addition to connecting your Macbook to the TV, you may also need to adjust the video output signal coming from the computer itself. Several of the TV's in Sony's Bravia model line should include a list of the optimal settings for each screen resolution within the owner's manual, but you may need to search through Sony's online support site if you can't find this list for your specific model.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
