RCA RC5215P DVD Player only plays in black & white

I have a RCA RC5215P DVD player that only plays video in black and white. Everything else works fine. I have a feeling the teenage daugther messed something up in the menu. Please note that I see no "video output setting" in the main DVD menu to switch from PAL to NTSC. Also there is no switch on the back on unit. Please if some could advise. Regards Ronster.

My dvd player only plays movies in black and white. When I watch tv, it's in color so I know its not the tv.

Hi,

I suspect you may have connected a COMPOSITE cable (red/white/yellow RCA type) to the COMPONENT video input sockets on the back of the TV.

COMPONENT requires 3 RCA type video cables - the plugs and sockets are usually colour-coded red, green, and blue. COMPOSITE only uses one RCA type video cable - the plugs and sockets are usually colour-coded yellow.
If you connect the yellow video cable to one of the three component inputs you will get a black and white picture although you will still have audio if the red and white cables are correctly connected.

If you are using a COMPOSITE cable (red/white/yellow RCA type), please check your connections. Make sure you have not connected to any sockets - either on the TV or the back of the DVD player - under the heading of "COMPONENT" - or individually marked "Pr", "Cr", "Pb", "Cb" or "Y".

If you have verified that you are using the correct sockets on the TV and it still doesn't work or if you are using any other type of cable, please let me know which cable you are using and the model number of the TV and the DVD player. I will then be able to assist you further.

BElectric

Only playing in black and white

There is a regular video out jack in the rear of the DVD player

Try that to the Video -In on the TV

Also. with the component video , make sure the colors all match at both ends

Play dvd has no color

This is often the problem when the output is set incorrectly. i.e. you are using component cables and the output of the unit is set to video or such, try looking in set up on the menu screen and see id you can change the output.

The other time I have had this happen is when the RGB plugs were in the wrong hole.

Hope this helps you, Cheers, Rob

you might have a bad cable just because you get a great picture but no color.i would exchange the cable where you bought it and try another one.

Color to black and white and back again

Since you're using a composite cable (yellow RCA) that carries both luma (brightness) and chroma (color) information, it's not the cable that is the problem.

That means it's either the DVD player itself, or the TV. If you have another video device (VCR, etc) that you can connect to the TV, try that. If the other device also goes from color to black and white, then it's your TV. Otherwise the problem is your DVD player.

Since your TV only has mono audio (white RCA, but no red) I would recommend getting a new TV if the TV is to blame.

Panasonic DVD-RV32 DVD Player-No image on RCA output

Hi Obviously the unit is playing the disk because your audio is fine, and getting some kind of black & white picture out of the composite, means that the video processor is probably ok. The most likely things to check then is the yellow video cable, (just swap the red or white in place of the yellow on both the DVD and your tv to test), or possibly the yellow RCA jack on the back of your DVD has gotten loose. If you have not done so, try wiggling it gently to see if your video comes back. If it does, and you are handy with a soldering iron, you can probably repair it yourself. Other than that, it would be a problem for a repair shop. (and a strange one!) Hope this helps, and good luck!
