Changing a chainring will also involve shortening or lengthing the chain, as well as moving the front derailler up or down. It will also mean adjusting the gear cable. Not so simple. By "higher range" I assume that you want better hill climbing gears, which are the LOW gears. In most cases this can be done by changing the gear cluster on the back to incorporate a larger sprolet with more teeth. Rear deraillers will usually be able to accomodate this, if not you will need a new rear derailler. You will also need to have the gear cable tuned again. If however by "higher gears" you mean MORE gears, buy a new bike. Changing the nnumber of gears on a bike is expensive as it involves changing a number of components and may not work well anyway.

Actually no! you can visit your bike shop and ask them for higher range. What they do is change the front wheel ring in order to give you higher range.

I shift into a low gear going up hills, can barely pedal the bike at all. I have a brand new columbia comfort women's 16" northway bike.

Hills are not meant to be climbed at a fast pace. The lower gears make it easier for you to convert your pedal movement to tire rotation so this is why you seem to be not going anywhere. Try a higher gear so that easier pedals make less tire movement allowing you to climb hills with ease. Practise on flat ground till you get used to the gearing then always remember to have the right gear selected before you encounter the hill or your climb will be just as tough.

Your gears work like this: The bigger the chain ring on the front where your pedals attach makes for faster speed and is accompanied by harder pedalling. The bigger the chain ring on the back where it is attached to the wheel makes for easier pedalling and less speed. Remember to never use the opposite rings. Eg. Do not use the largering on front with the large ring on back. You will over stress your chain and could break.

Try this, leave the front chain on the middle ring and only use the rear drailleur and get use to the range this set of rings has before you change what front ring you are using.

Happy biking and I hope this helps.

The gear shifter on the Girls' Diamondback Tess 24 is too tight for my daughter to shift gears. She can shift down toward the higher numbers, but getting back up to 3-2-1 is nearly impossible for her....

hi.

these can be adjusted, but the first thing to do is to change the entire gear cable.
spraying the whole thing with wd40 or simillar may help, but the lining of the outer cable has almost certainly worn and is causing the problem you are having.

this is very common. bike makers tend to use relatively cheap cables, and they can wear and cause problems quite easily.
oil the new cable before you fit it and you should not have any more problems.

hope this helps

I DONT HA ANY PROB , I WANT 2 BUY PULSAR 150 , I JUST WANT 2 KNW PULSAR' PRICE

Hello,

The price range, from a dealer, for this bike will run upwards in price to Rs 45000. If you find a private owner, the price range is from Rs 23000 to 38000. This depends on the mileage and condition of the bike. If the bike is in showroom condition you can expect to pay the higher price. Also the city where the bike is being sold will have a slight effect on the price.

Hope this helps. If you find this information useful, please vote on this post. Thank you.

Sounds like timing chain, higher pitch gear noise.

common on high mileage bikes, chain tend to stretch over years and get very sloppy. you might also want to check the gear making sure is not worn, worn gear will chew your new chain up quickly. check your timing belt also, it good idea to also replace.
