I have a Craftsman 3-speed snow thrower (model # 247.88255) that does not self propel. The drive belt is fine but does not engage. Any suggestions on how to fix-it? Thank you.

Do not start to do this but put the blower in gear like you would run to drive its self and try to turn the wheels by hand and if they turn easily then you may have a shear pin that is broken or missing in the drive pulley.
Just a thought.
check the bearings in the auger sounds like the froze up and now they need to be replaced (the smoking you saw was from the belts slipping on the pullies)..good luck
