Microwave hums Microwave does not heat and hums, but plate turnes and lights and timer work

  • mharris0912 Feb 11, 2009

Yea, same issue. A technician will look at it but my personal guess is that it is a circuitboard issue.

  • lml2000 Mar 08, 2009

Without warning, heard large crack sound after putting in microwave safe dish with pasta. When attempted to reheat, sound was more of humming, & no heating was taking place.

Definitely need service, but question is can unit be repaired w/o pulling out from wall, as have granite siding below unit that prevents easy & quick removal from wall.

SOURCE: Microwave lights up plate turns something hums

Sounds pretty normal but the inside is not supposed to get hot - only the food is.

Try heating a half glass of water for 1 minute if it gets hot... its working - if not then the actual microwave generating device inside has probably died.
In that case buy a new microwave oven as the cost of parts and labour to repair is usually more than cost of buying a new one.,

All electronics that have relays have a problem with the relays arcing shut. Hit the back of the relay firmly to release it.

Microwave continues heating even when off

The microwave has a short. You need to replace it, there's no real fix for it. Keep it unplugged and dispose of it. It will eventually catch on fire, and this isn't an exaggeration.

Microwave will not heat, but will turn on. Clock and Timer still work. Turntable turns. Making a loud humming noise and light flickers

This clearly indicates a bad magnetron, "heats food" in most cases it is cheaper to replace the microwave oven than have it repaired, since the magnetron is the heart of the unit.

Toss it out. The transformer is likely bad.

Runs but has loud humming sound. Does not heat. Turntable, timer and lights work.

The diode that connects to the capacitor needs to be replaced. Once its replaced microwave will begin to heat again. (If it wasn't heating and wasn't making a humming noise, then your magnetron would need to be replaced). If you are thinking of doing it yourself and need instructions, i'll be glad to help.

Food won't heat up

Hello, I had the same problem, and just fixed mine. Start by turning on your microwave (on mine, the light turned on and timer worked, but the fan nor the plate turned)... push the door upward and see if the microwave turns on... (mine did). so far so good. open the door and take the upper hinge cap off with flat head screwdrive. take the door off and place a small washer on the bottom hinge, put the door back on. your microwave should be good now. essentially, the door just needs to be pushed up a bit so it will work.
good luck, hope that works for you...

Hums, does not heat when started. Display, timer,

The problem could be the high voltage fuse or the magnatron assembly. replace both to be safe. good luck.
