Volume at max and won't go down

This sounds like a common problem on these TVs. Try a factory reset:

1. Press and hold "Menu" and "Channel+" on the TV. (do not use the remote)
2. Using the other hand, press the Power button.
3. A small screen should appear in the top left part of the screen.
4. Using the remote, select "Memory Recall" and Enter.
5. Power off and reboot the TV and Computer.
6. Run channel auto-scan to regain the picture.

Where is the auto convergence button

Hello
From it menu option, suf through and come to automatic convergence display option and press Ok button on the remote control.

The List & Labels part of the setup lets you edit your channel list and choose or create a

personal six-character label for each channel.

Note: Changing List and Labels can be time consuming. You can change these at a later time by accessing the

Setup menu.

1. Press the left or right arrow to scroll through the available channels and choose the

channel you want to edit.

2. Press the down arrow to highlight the In channel list option. Press the left or right arrow

button to add (the box is checked) or remove (the box is unchecked) the channel from the

list.

3. Press the down arrow to highlight the Channel label option. Press the left or right arrow

button to scroll through the available list of 25 most common labels. The last option in

the list allows you to create your own six-character label for the channel (the first letter of

the label is highlighted).

4. Press the 1 or 2 number button to change the first letter of the label.

5. Press the right arrow to highlight the second letter, then press the 1 or 2 number button

to change the second letter, etc...

6. When you are finished creating your label, press OK. For model D34W20, your TV tunes to

the last channel available in your channel list. For models D40W20 and D52W20 only, the
Auto Convergence menu appears next.

Auto Convergence (for models D40W20 and D52W20 only)

Your TV's picture tubes might have been disturbed during delivery or after you moved the TV,

causing the color in your TV to be out of alignment. The colors adjust by starting auto

convergence.

1. Press OK to begin auto convergence.

2. When the auto convergence is complete, the Red center convergence menu appears. The

cross in the middle of the screen should be yellow. If it is not, use the arrow buttons to

move the red cross to overlap the green cross. Press OK when adjustments are complete.

3. The Blue center convergence menu appears with a cyan cross in the middle of the screen. If

it is not, use the arrow buttons to move the blue cross to overlap the green cross. Press OK
(the TV tunes to the last available channel in the channel list).

Main Menu and lock cymbol keep coming on screen. How do I get rid of them?

Wendy ohlsen, I know you really like your E173FP, but it is quite "old" in CCFL back-lit lcd display years. It could be 4 to 6 years old. Retrevo .com lists unit as "time to retire" ,, Please reply back with the "date of manufacture" from rear of unit. Tell me if unit has a "lay on floor" power adapter or just a plain old "line cord" that plugs into the wall. When "strange stuff" starts to appear on screen, problem is most likely inside the unit on the power supply board. Let me know if your husband or boyfriend can assist you with an internal visual investigation of unit's power supply board. See YOUTUBE video clips of repairs being done on typical Dell units first. Pay particular attention to BAD CAPACITORS being replaced with new ones!!! 12fixlouie

Volume pop up in the middle of my screen

no photos of said window presented? i cant see them?
must be OSD? the monitor brain on screen display (menu)?
even with the DVI cable pulled?
only a monitor stated, w1907, no PC
some monitors have button lock
read the manual ?oops HP deleted it...
it tells you to push the menu key on the monitor for 10 seconds
and it unlocks. (4 buttons right side left button is MENU)
doom?
that power deal sounds super bad, like the power supply is bad.
if the monitor fails by its self not plugged it to a PC
then the monitors is bad.
try a reset on it? ( power off for 1hr, or off then plug in with power button held? or power on with menu held (wild guesses but common practice)
ok found your manual page 4-8 shows menu page advanced
list line in list factory reset.
but if the keys are dead, and power lamp failing
the power supply is no good or worse. worse is always possible.
and expensive

Not true color

I seem to have found the solution (and the cause, perhaps?) for this problem!

I was having the EXACT same problem with a monitor I'm repairing for a friend. The capacitors on the power supply board were blown (CapXon capacitors, who'd've guessed), which was keeping it from powering up. After replacing the capacitors, the screen worked beautifully. But it had this weird yellow tint!

The strange part was that pure colors - red, green, blue - all appeared perfectly OK on screen. Curiously, the menus would show in the proper colors, except for one: the manual color adjustment menu, which illustrated "Blue" as a sort of off-green in the icon. Auto-Adjust would always fix the colors for a split second, then go back to yellow. Reset didn't fix it. Color reset didn't either. So, exactly the same problem as above.

The solution I found was hidden within the main menu itself, a sort of "easter egg". Hold the Menu button down while pressing Power, and hold it down until the screen, and menu, appear. There will now be a hidden selection, "Auto Color", printed in a red-on-black font at the bottom of the menu. Use the +/- buttons to access it, and press Menu. Voila! PERFECT COLOR! Perhaps this menu was accessed by accident, and calibrated to an incorrect color key. But now my picture works great, and the setting lasts through Auto-Adjusts and Resets!
