My sharp al2020 makes creaking heavy sound at startup, i changed the heater unit but still the same then i removed the drum unit then it stopped. Is the drum unit be replaced?

Based on your description, it seems like the problem might be related to the drum unit. The drum unit is a critical component of the printer and it's responsible for transferring toner onto the paper. If there's a problem with the drum unit, it can cause various issues, including creaking or heavy sounds during startup. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue further: Inspect the drum unit: Carefully examine the drum unit for any signs of damage or wear. Look for cracks, scratches, or other visible signs of wear and tear. If you notice any damage, you may need to replace the drum unit. Clean the drum unit: If the drum unit appears to be in good condition, try cleaning it to see if that helps resolve the issue. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down the drum unit and remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated on its surface. Reinstall the drum unit: Once you've cleaned the drum unit, reinstall it back into the printer and try starting it up again. If the creaking or heavy sound returns, it's likely that the drum unit needs to be replaced. Contact a technician: If you're not comfortable replacing the drum unit yourself, or if the issue persists after replacing the drum unit, you should contact a qualified technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose the issue and recommend the best course of action. In summary, based on your description, it seems likely that the drum unit may need to be replaced. However, before you replace it, try cleaning it and reinstalling it to see if that helps resolve the issue. If the problem persists, contact a technician for further assistance.

Hi there,

Below are instructions that I have found from the internet. Hope that they will help.

  • Open the front cover of the printer.
  • Hold down the Go button for 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Then release the Go button
  • Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  • Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the printer.
  • Close the front cover of the printer
  • Your drum unit should now be reset
  • MFC / DCP PRINTER SERIES

1.Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge. Wait 1 or 2 minutes.
2.Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge into printer.
3.The error message "Change Drum Soon/Drum end soon" will continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replace the drum unit.
4.To clear this error message, you need to reset the drum counter as instructed below.
5.Make sure that the machine is turned on.

For MFC users: To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1. For DCP users To confirm you are installing a new drum, press the Up Arrow key

7.When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.

Resetting the drum unit will not improve print quality. It only resets your drum and allows you to continue to print. You decide when to replace the drum unit not the manufacturer!

How do I take out the drum

When you change the toner cartridges you have to take out the whole Drum and Toner unit and unclip the toner from the drum unit. The Drum when you are replacing it is the DR7000 unit. Replace this unit and clip your toner unit back onto the new drum unit and re-install it in the printer and follow the instructions that came with the replacement drum unit to reset the drum counter.

Kyocera 1810 drum replacement

First, what kind of technical background do you have? Also when replacing the drum you should replace the drum blade. Most of the drum/blade kits do not come with padding powder anymore so you will need the padding powder also -- if you do not use the padding powder you will get drum blade jitter and trash the brand new drum!!!!

TO replace the drum you will need to remove the toner cart., 1-2 covers, the dev. unit (developer) and then the drum unit. You will then have to take the drum unit apart to remove the old drum and blade. *****NOTE***** DO NOT TOUCH THE DRUM SURFACE OR THE MYLAR (RUBBER PART) OF THE BLADE WITH YOUR SKIN!!!!!! The oil from your skin will damage the drum and could damage the blade, again -- then they would be trashed.

I would spend the money to have a trainer tech. come out and replace/ rebuild your photo conductive unit for you. It would be money well spent.
