SOURCE: Dell Vostro 1000 won't turn on/no power at all
My problem was similar!
I would press the on button, little power light came on, could hear 2
sort'a clicks (like it was trying to start up), then nothing.... A
black screen. Power showing on; but just not booting up.
I have read quite a few people out there having the same problem,
with few solutions. And like them, I tried all the usual methods plus a
few "let's see if THIS makes it work" methods!
Now let me state something important here: My computer DID boot up
after turning the system (read; pressing the power button every 10-15
seconds like a trained chicken) on and off between "10 and 30+" tries!!
So.....that told me, in lay-man's terms, my puter was just act'n plain goofy!
Telling myself I can't go through this test of patience EVERYtime I
want to use this thing, I stumbled on a cure for my problem!!
What I did was; unplugged the power, let the battery run down (to the
point where my laptop quit on its own) [btw, you should be sure to only
have the desktop showing and not have any applications running to
minimize problems!]
I then plugged it in, and turned it on. To my amazement, it booted on the first try!
If you have tried all the normal methods of fixing your computer and it
still will not work right; you might want to give this a try as a
near-to-last resort!
I sincerely hope this works for any one out there who is having this
problem when it takes multiple attempts to get your system to boot!
This occurred on a Vostro 1000, running Vista (home edition)
HAVE A GREAT DAY

SOURCE: HOW TO DISABLE TOUCH PAD DELL LAPTOP
You should have a "FN" key on the keyboard and one of the "F" keys should have a symbol that looks like the touch-pad, hold FN while using this key should disable it, failing this in control panel, then mouse and pointers, you should have touchpad setting there should be a disable button/radius.
