SOURCE: Dell Vostro 1000 won't turn on/no power at all

My problem was similar!
I would press the on button, little power light came on, could hear 2 sort'a clicks (like it was trying to start up), then nothing.... A black screen. Power showing on; but just not booting up.
I have read quite a few people out there having the same problem, with few solutions. And like them, I tried all the usual methods plus a few "let's see if THIS makes it work" methods!
Now let me state something important here: My computer DID boot up after turning the system (read; pressing the power button every 10-15 seconds like a trained chicken) on and off between "10 and 30+" tries!!
So.....that told me, in lay-man's terms, my puter was just act'n plain goofy!
Telling myself I can't go through this test of patience EVERYtime I want to use this thing, I stumbled on a cure for my problem!!

What I did was; unplugged the power, let the battery run down (to the point where my laptop quit on its own) [btw, you should be sure to only have the desktop showing and not have any applications running to minimize problems!]
I then plugged it in, and turned it on. To my amazement, it booted on the first try!
If you have tried all the normal methods of fixing your computer and it still will not work right; you might want to give this a try as a near-to-last resort!
I sincerely hope this works for any one out there who is having this problem when it takes multiple attempts to get your system to boot!
This occurred on a Vostro 1000, running Vista (home edition)
HAVE A GREAT DAY

I have a dell vostro A860 laptop.not working to Touchpad. How to Fix Touchpad Not Working in Laptop

What you can initially do is to update the driver.
  1. Press on the windows key + R. A run box will appear.
  2. Type devmgmt.msc then click on ok. The device manage will appear.
vincent_von_2.jpg
  1. Click on the plus sign besides mice and other pointing devices.
  2. Right click on the item that will be pertaining to your touch pad.
  3. Choose update driver and let the internet work for you.
If this does not work, you will need to totally reinstall the driver.
  1. On the same screen (device manager) right click on the touch pad driver again, the choose uninstall.
  2. follow the prompts for uninstallation. You might wanna uninstall any mouse related drivers as well (these application can also cause conflicts thus causing your touch pad not to work)
  3. download the touch pad driver available from the link I provided below.
  4. follow the prompts for installation.
  5. restart
Dell Vostro Driver list (click here to view all available drivers for your portable system)
Dell Vostro Touch Pad Driver (click here to download the touch pad driver)
It this does not work, you will need to call Dell Technical Support to have the laptop serviced. That is if the portable still has warranty. If not, then you will need to buy a USB mouse as a replacement.

How can I fixed a defective motherboard of my dell vostro 1000 laptop? where can I order the exact type of my vostro 1000 motherboard laptop?

Only Dell will be able to supply a replacement Dell motherboard.
Telephone Dell, and ask for Technical Support, to find the part-number and the (HIGH!) cost.

My Dell Vostro 1000 keeps shutting off. Cure?

I am having the same problem.
I used to think that maybe the problem was related to overheating so I I bought a cooling pad with fan. This improved the situation somewhat, but, the problem continues.
My friend thinks it is related to the power supply/power cord.
