Microwave lights and buttons work but doesn't heat up anything

Everything appears to be working but doesn't heat up anything. Just found a placemat that was put on top of the microwave covering the vent. (child did this!) I'm guessing it hasn't been that long. A couple weeks at most. Could this have anything to do with it? We also unplugged and plugged it in again. Microwave is about 2 years old.

When you start the microwave say for 1 minute. Listen closely when you hit start, the light should come on and about a 1/2 second later you should hear a little click and a slight hum. This means the controller is turning on the high voltage transformer and that part of it is working. My guess is that the magnatron is bad. That's the most common problems with all brands of microwaves. The mat on the top should not have caused the problem since the microwave has heat shutdowns in it. I would say that it's a 90% chance it's the magnatron. Most microwaves have a 5 year warranty on that part. Look at your owners manual. Good luck.

HELLO.

Since there is an amount of volts from the outlet, the fault is from the microwave breaker.

The solution is given below.

Reset the microwave breaker.

Take the back cover of the microwave off with a screwdriver.

Inside you will find a motor.

Most microwave motors have a small red reset button on them. Hit that button.

Your microwave should work again if the breaker was the issue.

Thanks

Sharp 1870 just quit cooking and no turntable

The fact that the microwave and convection both do not heat indicated that the oven is in demo mode, check the user manual, otherwise it will possibly be a relay not triggering, may need a pcb replacement, check Demo mode 1st....Phil

Can't use the microwave at all

you have either a bad keypad or control board.

If you have operation of some buttons and not others its the keypad. if you have no operation out of the buttons at all you have a bad control board.

If you turn your microwave on and it sets and the timer counts down you have a bad interlock switch..

please let me know exactly what your microwave does when you set the cook time

Not heating up anything

Not knowing how much run time you have on the microwave , makes it hard to diagnose the problem but If everything appears to be working properly (as you describe) then you may have a bad/damaged or disconnected magnetron tube inside it. That kind of service should be done by professionals. Exposure to Microwave energy is not something you should mess around with unless you know what you are doing.. Good Luck
