Hi, I have two Verbatim Smartdisk external drives (Firelite Model No. 47551) that we were using as a backup medium. They have been replaced by larger RDX drives but I would like to use the Verbatim...

If you did not receive a driver disk with your Smartdisks when you purchased them than you do not need to install any drivers. However, depending on which windows operating system you are using, your smartdisks may not be compatible. What you should do is go online to the Verbatim website and see if your model is compatible with the operating system you are using.

use the source (pc/Mac) that created the data to remove it.
you will need to re-format to get it to work on the machine you are currently trying to use.
(personally I always remove all partitions and format to "fat" (remove factory) this will make the drive work on Mac as well as pc)

hope this helps

How to use verbatim model # usb500

Plug it in one of the usb ports of your computer. Check if the external hard drive has a power button.
Normally, something will pop up on the screen asking you to install the software that came with it.

Follow the instructions and you may now use the external drive as your back up drive.

Verbatim drive regularly does not show up as available. I have to unplug it and try to get it to reset. do you know how to fix?

Hello!
I checked the Verbatim website for common Windows/USB drive problems. Since I don't know your exact model the information I'm giving is pretty general, but from the Verbatim website it looked like something that could help.

For one, Verbatim says you don't need drivers for your drive to work, but if you're having issues installing their driver might help. Go to their website (Verbatim.com) and in the top left go to "Support". From there you should be able to enter your model and download drivers. The installation instructions are usually on the same page.

The second potential fix is to increase the USB power to the drive. The Verbatim site says that some of their drives require plugging into 2 USB ports to get enough power to run the drive. If this is the case for your drive, you should've gotten a USB cable that is shaped like a "Y". The two wires at the "top" of the "Y" go into two USB ports on your computer. It also said that if even you didn't get the cable you could still be having power issues. You'll have to go to the Support section of the site and enter your model number to see if this could still be the problem.

Good luck! Remember to rate the responses you get!

My computer wont reconnize dvd r verbatim disks for burning wont can i do to solve this problem

Don't use verbatim brand, some model are brand specific, some problems are due to write capability of both media and burner.

Or check at manufacturer's site for any support of updating your burner media brand support.

If you want, try to experiment which media are good on your unit.
