SOURCE: istD shutter release problem

I've had similar problems with my Pentax Super-A on an intermittent basis. If you haven't replaced the batteries I suggest you try that first. Not sure why, but that has sorted my problem out quite a few times (even when the existing batteries still have a fair amount of juice left in them).

SOURCE: Malfunction indicator lamp

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp or MIL (Also called the check engine light or service engine soon light) comes on when the on board computer detects an issue with the operation of the engine or transmission.

The best thing to do is to take the vehicle to an auto parts store like Autozone and have them hook up their scan tool to the vehicle and read the code. They can read it, tell you what it is and also tell you what the code means.

If it is pointing to a faulty component or sensor and you replace or repair the component the the light will go off on its own after the computer sees that the malfunction is no longer present.

You can have the code cleared, but if whatever caused the light to come on in the first place is not addressed then it will just come back on eventually.

SOURCE: Lacetti Chevrolet. Malfunction Indicator light is on.

It may be the same problem as my 56 plate Lacetti. The yellow malfunction light came on two weeks ago and two days ago, both times shortly after filling up with petrol to the brim, and I suspect it is the petrol sensor as I only clicked the petrol cap once after fitting it back - the handbook says click it several times. The yellow light also came on yesterday after taking the car a short journey so it is likely that the sensor is still picking up a small escape of petrol, but the car has been fine today with no light appearing now that the fuel level has dropped a bit. Like you, I have not noticed any drop in power with the light on.

SOURCE: Exhaust gas component related malfunction light.

You will have to read the codes and see specifically what the problem is. Sometimes its more then one code. So its real simple to do. So just get a peice of wire maybe and inch long, bend it like a horse shoe. Then find the little jumper box,its usually on the fire wall. So in the manual find the the 2 plug in points. Thats in the emissions section. Then sit in the car and turn the key on do not start the car. and watch the blinking engine light. count the blinks and compare them in the manual. You now know the specific problem

Hello, I have a quick question. Where would the idle sensor in a 2004 Nissan Altima 2.5 be located under the hood? I've been looking online for some answers, but I am getting other years.

Your vehicle has no idle sensor , it has electronic throttle control . Has 2 position sensors in the gas pedal assembly an 2 position sensors in the throttle body ,plus a DC motor that controls the idle . The sensors are inputs to the engine computer ,the computer controls the DC motor to control idle .
DTC P1121 ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR PFP:16119 Component Description UBS002XS Electric throttle control actuator consists of throttle control motor, throttle position sensor, etc. The throttle control motor is operated by the ECM and it opens and closes the throttle valve. The throttle position sensor detects the throttle valve position, and the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds the voltage signals to the ECM. The ECM judges the current opening angle of the throttle valve from these signals and the ECM controls the throttle control motor to make the throttle valve opening angle properly in response to driving condition. On Board Diagnosis Logic UBS002XT These self-diagnoses have the one trip detection logic. FAIL-SAFE MODE When the malfunction is detected, ECM enters fail-safe mode and the MIL lights up. DTC Confirmation Procedure UBS00CVM NOTE: ? Perform PROCEDURE FOR MALFUNCTION A AND B first. If the DTC cannot be confirmed, perform PROCEDURE FOR MALFUNCTION C. ? If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test. PROCEDURE FOR MALFUNCTION A AND B With CONSULT-II 1. Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 1 second. 2. Select "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT-II. 3. Shift selector lever to D position (A/T) or 1st position (M/T), and wait at least 3 seconds. 4. Shift selector lever to P position (A/T) or Neutral position (M/T). 5. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. 6. Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 1 second. 7. Shift selector lever to D position (A/T) or 1st position (M/T), and wait at least 3 seconds. 8. Shift selector lever to P position (A/T) or Neutral position (M/T). 9. Turn ignition switch OFF, wait at least 10 seconds, and then turn ON. 10. If DTC is detected, go to EC-357, "Diagnostic Procedure" . With GST Follow the procedure "With CONSULT-II" above. DTC No. Trouble diagnosis name DTC detecting condition Possible cause P1121 1121 Electric throttle control actuator A) Electric throttle control actuator does not function properly due to the return spring malfunction. ? Nissan pulsar 1987 n13 the ECM light came one and the car cut out and won't start again and I need to know where the ECM is

Hi, the computer is under the passenger's seat. Code extraction procedure is pasted below.

READING CODES Modes will not switch while the engine is running. The ECM automatically switches to MODE I when the ignition is switchedOFF.
1984-90 Vehicles With Dual LED System
The self-diagnostic system has 5 modes. To switch modes, switch the ignition ON and use a screwdriver to turn the mode select switch through the access port on the ECM. The inspection lights will begin to flash. When the desired mode has been entered, turn the screwdriver fully counterclockwise. The red LED and green LED perform different functions in different modes.
Mode I-
This is the normal vehicle operating mode. The green LED will indicate loop status. If the green LED is not blinking when the engine is running, the vehicle is in open loop, or the HO 2 S, O 2 S, or sensor circuit has a malfunction. If the green LED is blinking, the vehicle is in closed loop. If a malfunction takes place, the red LED and the MIL will glow, indicating a malfunction has occurred.
Mode II-
Both the red LED and green LED are used to monitor mixture ratio feedback control. The green LED will function as described in MODE I. If vehicle is in open loop, the red LED and green LED will remain on or off. In order for results to be valid, vehicle must be in closed loop. In closed loop, the red LED remains off if the system is running rich, comes on if the system is running lean, and blinks at the same time with the green LED if system is within 5% of the exact air/fuel ratio.
Mode III
-When this mode is accessed, the codes stored in the ECM's memory will be flashed by the green LED and red LED on the side of the ECM. The red LED will light first. This is the first digit of the trouble code; the green LED will flash next, showing the second digit of the code. For example: 2 flashes of the red LED followed by 1 flash of the green LED corresponds to Code 21.
Mode IV-
This mode is used for checking the throttle plate (TP) switch, starter, and vehicle speed switch status. When the TP switch or starter switch is activated, the red LED will briefly flash as the status changes. For VSS status, the green LED will remain off when vehicle speed is less than 12 mph (19 km/h) and come on when vehicle speed is greater than 12 mph (19 km/h).
Mode V-
This mode represents a real-time diagnostic test of the crank angle sensor, ignition signal and the mass airflow signal. The malfunction code will be displayed only when the malfunction occurs and will not be stored in memory. The output code will appear as a single or short string of pulses. Count the number of pulses for the malfunction code.

1 pulse-CMP sensor signal lost or noise in signal 2 pulses-MAF Sensor signal abnormal 3 pulses-Fuel pump circuit shorted or open 4 pulses-Ignition signal lost

How do i check my codes in a 86 nissan z24 pickup

The self-diagnostic system identifies malfunctions of signal systems such as sensors, actuators and wire harnesses based on the input signals received by the ECCS control unit. Various malfunctions are coded and displayed on the control unit by a series of blinking red and green lights. Results of the self-diagnosis are retained in the control unit's memory and are displayed when the mode selector, located on the rear of the control unit, Fig. 122, is switched to the On position. When displaying malfunction codes, the code number can be determined by counting the number of light pulses. The red light represents the first digit of the code, while the green light represents the second digit of the code. For example, a Code 32, would be displayed as three flashes of the red light, followed by two flashes of the green light. Malfunction codes can be translated as follows:
  1. Code 11 -- Crank angle sensor circuit malfunction.
  2. Code 12 -- Air flow meter malfunction.
  3. Code 13 -- Water temperature sensor circuit malfunction.
  4. Code 21 -- Ignition signal malfunction.
  5. Code 23 -- Idle switch circuit malfunction.
  6. Code 24 -- Transmission switch and clutch switch circuit malfunction.
  7. Code 32 -- Starter signal malfunction.
  8. Code 42 -- Throttle sensor circuit malfunction.
  9. Code 43 -- Injector circuit malfunction.
  10. Code 44 -- All monitored systems satisfactory.

My Lexicon Alex is malfunctioning, where can I find parts?

I don't think it's broken. I think you've cleared some registers (probably number 5 from your description, maybe more) and now you're "us[ing] cleared registers as loop points." This means that you're looping 1-2-3-4 then back to 1 again. This is actually a feature of the Alex and it's awesome as long as you're using it intentionally :) If you don't know you're "using" it the unit have symptoms similar to what you're describing. It's possible that it is broken, but it's more likely that you're in this mode.

I attached a pic of my user's manual.

Also here are the directions as printed in the manual to clear or restore a register (i.e. a number spot on the dial):

  1. Briefly press STORE/CLEAR until a minus sign (-) is displayed.
  2. Press and hold STORE/CLEAR. If you were in preset mode, the register LED will go on, indicating that Alex has automatically switched to register mode -- selecting whatever register is indicated by the position of the REGISTER/PRESET knob. The "-" symbol in the display will flash, indicating that the CLEAR function is armed.
  3. Releasing STORE/CLEAR will clear the displayed register. The display will flash briefly to indicate the clear was successful. (The ID number of any cleared register flashes when selected with the REGISTER/PRESET knob.)
To restore a cleared register, simply repeat the clear operation with the "+" displayed.
