Carriage will not return

IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II. The carriage will not return all the way. First will go halfway back, then less and less. When I turn the machine off and then back on, it re-sets and returns all the way to the right. Then, same problem again.

does the typewriter make a squalling noise when returning. If it does the motor that pushes the carrier back and forth is the problem.

need to take top cover off real easy. look on the side of typ, small elongated hole front of key board and one in the back. in the hole there is a tab holding down cover. with power cord out of the machine put a flat blade screwdriver in slot pull up on cover. There is a slot on all 4 corners.

now that the cover is off the motor is on the L.H. side. turn typ. around. There is a brass bearing on the motor. Oil that area work the carrier back and fourth. also look for any for-un object in the machine. xsamen the belt the pulls the carrier is it farad.

Reinstall cover. careful of the red or Orange gide on the front of the carrier. bend the front of the cover around it. also the power switch is in the hole, paper gide is on the top of platen. snap all 4 corners down, plug in & try it.

sorry to say but the main drive motor is no longer avlabul

    hope it works

My IBM selectric II typewriter carriage stuck in right margin

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

IBM Selectric II-return goes past the margin stop

The margin release mech. is probably gummy and allowing returns to go past the margin. If thi is a dual pitch machine see if the pitch selector lever will move easily. If not use some WD40 on the margin rack.

Try a little light oil on the printer shaft. WD40 works well.

Carriage return not working

Turn off T/W and see if the carrier will move back and forth freely, if so try removing the batteries and unplugging the machine this will reset to defalt settings. CAUTION THIS WILL ALSO CLEAR YOUR MEMORY!! If the carrier is hard to move a little light oil on the shaft it slides on may cure the problem.
