Panasonic projector PT-L78 - Cannot get ride of Lamp time error. To reset the timer

How long ago did you replace the lamp?
If the lamp has not actually been replaced and you are attempting to bypass this safety feature then I have bad news for you. Once the projector determines current flow through the lamp has exceeded the threshold amount, it will put the projector into the mode it is in now - Critical Lamp Replacement. You can set the projector bulb to low power output and see if that allows you to reset the bulb life timer but, again, if you have not actually replaced the bulb assembly, you are in danger of the bulb bursting under pressure. This can actually damage the projector.

You can find the manual for your projector at

Our projector (Panasonic PT AE900U) is still working but the picture seems very dark all of a sudden. we are wondering if this means we need to replace the bulb and if so, what do we replace it with.

You need a new lamp. Cost is around $350. The following site shows replacement:

Problems with Projector Panasonic PT-L501XU after change the lamp

was this bought new or second hand?
There is a "Lamp Time" setting that can be accessd using your remote control, check this setting.
Look on page 40 and after that of your manual about ambient temperature bulb failure.

By powering off or hittign the reset button the bulb should stay on IF the projector is gettign a signal from a device to show an image. If the projector is not hooked up to a device, laptop, TV, etc. the bulb may turn off to save hours of operation.

Does the VGA input work ?

If not then the Mainboard is at fault and will need either repair or replacement.

Panasonic PT L501U Projector

Right , if the indicator light goes from Green to Orange when shutting down , it will be the Powersupply that is giving problems and not the Ballast.

Panasonic PT L501U Projector

Hi there

Have you replaced the lamp ?

If you haven't - take out the lamp and chech for any irregularity on it - i.e. - discolouration , vein like looking marks ( black or white ) and also if the shape of the shaft is off.

If there is no visible damage it might be a faulty Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) - especially if you cannot get it out of stanby once it has shut down.
