No connectivity to internet with ethernet controller.

I downloaded windows xp pro with service pack 2 in a dell optiplex gx280 170L and cannot find & download ethernet controller driver. The device manager says other devices: ethernet controller. I went to dell for the right driver, looking underneath "networks" (4) downloads still doesn't work. I am using an external wifi to get on internet. How do I find to the right driver to fix my problem?

Thanks-Mike

There is a software called driver genius which works great for all drivers i had issues with, considering that its a out of date pc you may want to try that software. it costs but theres also a trial. here is the link from dell for the drivers. its a broadcom nic card and i have this exact setup at work in our shipping department so these will work

Need video driver dell optiplex 170l for windows 7

Drivers can be found at this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_CEL_170L

However, you might want to consider the instructions below, as many people have had the same issue you're having with getting those drivers to work with Windows 7:

You may need to install the drivers in compatibility mode for Windows XP

To run the driver installation program in compatibility mode
Configure the driver installation program to run in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Locate the executable file for the driver installation program.
2. Right-click the file, and then click Properties.
3. In the PackageName Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.
4. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK.
5. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program.

I have a Dell Latitude C510 Laptop and reinstalled Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 and I don't have a wireless connection. I have a Texas Instrument PCI-1420 Cardbus Controller and a 3-Com Ethernet...

Hi,

Look at the bottom of your Dell laptop and you will find a "service tag number". Then go to dells site and chose the support tab and then enter this service number and then a list of all new updated drivers for all the items in your laptop will show up and usually at the bottom is the "wireless driver". Download this and then install it and your wireless card should be good to go then. Also check you network connections tab in the control panel and make sure you do not have the wireless card disabled for some reason. Enable it if it shows disabled.

Installed new version of windows xp pro. does not recognize the ethernet port. not on hardware list

Go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen and enter in the service tag number. It will then list the drivers off, select and download the ethernet driver. The install program will put the drivers back on the machine and ask you to reboot.

Ethernet port doesn't recognize internet

ok i have herd of service pack 2 causing these problems, go to dell website , see if there are any service pack 2 fixes to download for your model laptop , or any updated drivers for your laptop , it does almost sound like a Harware problem , but i dont think thats the case , reinstaling xp may be the solution , start from scratch , and take note of what you install , as it maybe be some other software / programs causing this, it's also possible it is spyware or a virus causing this , spware doctor is a good program to use , you can download it for free and do a check , but u will need to buy it to clean the infections, unless u know how to pirate it, which i dont think im allowed to say ,
