Want to upgrade the video card in computer

Fist off yes you may add a video card onto the pc but it may not be as fast as you hoped. if you have nothing but "PCI" slots not "PCI-E" but pci you may want to look into the geforce 8400 gs which offers both AGP and PCI also the brand ATI offers pci cards too. its not that quite hard to do make sure you get a anti static band and attach it to the pc and your wrist to ground yourself or you will damage the computer. place in the card making sure you dont touch the connecting pins of the card and make sure everything is secure. most manufactures have intstructions on installation, most are easy to understand. once you have the card installed you will need to go into the BIOS and disable the onboard video thats already inbedded in the motherboard, also when doing this will alleviate the missing memory that was taken by the onboard video card. save and exit out of the bios and the pc will restart. load into windows then install drivers before anything else then restart again.

You did not say what kind of computer you have but when you go to buy the video card you want to install be sure that the person selling it to you guarantees that it will work for your system. Circuit City, Best Buy and other computer software and hardware companies will do at least that so you do not get stuck with something that is not compatible. The installation disc that comes with the card should be straight forward enough and you should not have to answer too many prompts in the pop up window wizard. It should tell you in the end how much video memory you have total after installation and also on power up during the diagnostics and in the setup of the cmos bios.
