Ink cartridge is being rejected

My printer is stating that the black ink cartridge cannot be recognized, but the ink is full.  When I place the cartridge in the printer the red light goes on indicating it is in properly, but as soon as I close the cover the printer rejects it saying it cannot be recognized

The cartridge
Is this a Canon ink cartridge or a refilled ink cartridge or an after market type. If it is not a Canon ink cartridge then printer will reject the ink cartridge.

one ink cartridge is out of ink but...

when we try to replace one of the color ink cartridges we get this error message:

I just replaced black ink cartridge and snapped all cartridges back in place and recharged the printer now it wont recognize the black ink cartridge even though it was just replaced
Try wiping the copper contacts on the new cartridge with a dustfree cloth dampened with some alcohol. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

Ink cartridge in being rejected
If it is a genuine canon ink cartridge. You can sent it back to canon and they will replace it free shipping and charge. I had a similar problem. The y will send you troubleshooting steps first.
