Self Cleaning Feature

I cannot locate my user manual and just want to use the self cleaning feature of my oven. Can you tell me the steps to use it? For instance, I don't know how to lock the doors. I don't know if I have to remove the racks first. I would also like to know how long it takes and if I can use the cooktop while the oven(s) are cleaning. Thanks!

First... yes you should remove the racks before using self cleaning. Broil pan too if it is in there. Second... the doors will lock by themselves, you don't need to do anything there. typically it takes about 3 and 1/2 hours to go through the cleaning cycle and yes you can use the cooktop while it's cleaning.

Need manual for self cleaning, please?

Hello Mary;

You can get a user manual at the following website.

Locate your oven model number. It is located on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the door. Put he model number into the website and you will get diagrams, component part numbers and manuals.

http://www.searspastsdirect.com/

I suspect the user manual is not going to help you. Tell me the model number and what is going on.

Manufacturers offer the self cleaning feature on ovens because customers like this feature and the ovens sell. Yet, the manufacturers engineers have not been able to provide a design that will protect all of the components from self cleaning temperature of 900-1,000 degree F.

When you go into the self cleaning model, the door will lock when you reach 500-550 Degree F. The oven temperature will raise to 900-1,000 degrees F. The oven door will not open until the oven temperature drops to 500 degree F after the self cleaning cycle is completed.

Now, You have a high temperature limit switch in your oven. If this switch fails, you will loose power to your control board and you will not be able to open the oven door.

If you have never used your self cleaning feature, the high temperature limit switch may have failed.

Do to the problems involved with the self cleaning feature, knocking out the control board from heat, additional heating element failure, and other components; It is in my professional recommendation as well as my fellow technicians not to use the self cleaning feature. If you do, do not run it for more than 1 hour instead for the manual 4 hours.

Hi lost the manual..need to start self cleaning

Hello,

An electric oven is a great oven choice because of the advanced self-cleaning feature often available on certain models. A self-cleaning oven uses high temperatures to clean crusty baking spills and splatters and free its owner from having to use harsh chemicals to clean his oven. The following 4 steps lay out how a self-cleaning oven works.

Step 1 - Setting the Self Cleaning Mode
Depending on the style and brand of oven you own, you start the self-cleaning cycle by setting the oven's operating dial to "Clean," a function that can be as simple as setting a timer knob or pushing one or two buttons.

Step 2 - Cleaning Cycle
Once you have set the self-cleaning cycle, the oven coils-both lower and upper--will begin to heat. These self-cleaning ovens are protected from high oven temperatures damage by heavy insulation installed in their walls and door during the manufacturing process.

Step 3 - Automatic Door Lock
When the oven reaches a pre-determined temperature, the lock on the oven door engages, preventing anyone from opening the door until the oven temperature has cooled.

Step 4 - Removing Residual Ashes
Once the cleaning process is completed, including cooling, you can then remove the residual ash by wiping the bottom oven surface with a damp cloth or sponge.

Hope this helpout

My oven flased an F9 error....

The solution to this issue is to finish running the self cleaning feature to this oven, Shutting off the oven or opening the door before the self cleaning feature has completely run will send a F9 error from the safety co0ntrol unit feature built in to the system bios of the control circuit, You will need to close the oven and set the option self cleaning to run now. if your error message prevents you from taking these steps you will need to unplug the oven from the wall socket and let it sit for an hour to reset the screen and then run the self cleaning feature all the way trough, it will shut down on its own when the self cleaning cycle has completed
