The machine will only print in back and white. If I go into the machine and print a demo or color configuration page its all in color but anything I print from my computer comes out in back and white. There is no error on the display and I reset all the factory defaults on the device.

even though you have ink coming out of the cartridge, if it's more than a few months since it's pumped any ink, it can be clogged internally, blotting with paper doesnt always work. Try a new cartridge, or buy a new printer, it's usually cheaper now to get a whole new printer than it is to replace a set of cartridges. consider it's a few years old now

you may check your only black ink cartridge
longer time less using cause ink chanel(holes) dryer, could not print out even refilled.you may take out the ink cartridge and put it's surface of bottom (just touch ) in the clean water 1 -2 Hrs, then set back and test it. still not fixed, you also need to do same thing if your print head is separated from your ink cartridge
SOURCE: I just replaced the yellow and cyan cartridges on
Remove the yellow cartridge. Pull back the shutter that covers the drum. Check to see if its covered with yellow toner. It should be fairly clean. You can pull another one and do the same to compare. If theres a lot of toner over it then the cartridge is bad.

For 34 Short Paper error, reseat the tray guides and make sure it is set properly. Also, set the correct settings in the computer. For blank pages, always double-check the paper settings and again the settings in the computer. For not printing black, print the Print Quality page and see what color is not printed or not showing. If Print Quality shows black, try printing any document from any application in the computer. Check if you still have the problem. If problem is not resolved, leave a comment so I can get back to this.

The problem could be caused by the photoconductor units. Try to swap the affected photoconductor units (like swap the magenta with black and cyan with yellow). If problem still occurs, then the photoconductors need replacement. I suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance. Thanks
Testimonial: "Thanks a lot. I just swapped the photoconductor units and now the smudges are black and yellow. I'll order a new unit. Your advice was very helpful."
