Ryobi 700r gas trimmer, replace old fuel lines

The 3 fuel lines dissolved and must be replaced. I don't know the proper connections.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

There are indeed two lines attached to the carby but more explanation is required. Does the line from the tank, with the filter, go to the top or bottom of the carby? The answer to this would appear critical to me. Once this is sorted, it would follow I think, that the other line from the carby goes to the inlet (****) side of the primer. It would then follow that the line connected to the outlet (blow) side of the primer goes into the tank, protruding approx 1/4"?

Please clarify as my line trimmer is giving me problems also. Starts but stalls very soon after indicating a possible fuel problem, to me at least.

Line from tank with the filter on it is the supply line and goes to the carb inlet fitting. This is typically on the "bottom" of the carb (with the tank being up) and will usually have a fitting with barbs or a bulge on it to ensure a tight fit. The other fitting on the carb is the return line and is usually a straight tube fitting with no barbs. That line goes the suction side of the primer bulb. The third line goes from the outlet of the primer bulb to the return barb fitting in the bottom of the tank. Fittings have to be removed from tank to properly install the new hoses on them. Remove retainer ring on outide of tank and push fittings into tank, then shake out of the fill opening. More details on replacing hoses are listed in another post about Repairing Ryobi trimmer.

To leemineres, if hoses are on right and unit still stalls after starting initially you probably need to disassemble carb and clean out using spray carb cleaner. May be sticky needle valve, or partially plugged port or jet.Could also be hole in diaphragm. Gasket and diaphragm kit would be good to add when you take apart, even if diaphragm does not have a hole.

There should be two coming off the carb one is the feed and the other is the return the return just sticks in the tank about a 1/4 inch the feed goes in the tank which has the filter attached to it hook these two up and pump the primer bulb if it continues to pump fuel than its right but if doesn't than just switch them then hook up the third one that's left hope this helps

The primer bulb is broken on my 700r 2-Cycle Gas Trimmer and I would like to replace it

not difficult at all to do , first obtain Ryobi primer /fuel line kit from your local distributor , then remove air cleaner cover (pops off with fingers) then drain all gas from fuel tank back into storage tank , locate the two Phillips head screws next to primer bulb and remove them , careful not to drop them !! remove old bulb from ring and replace with new bulb from pkg. then using a clean cloth , carefully wipe out sealing grove where bulb seats down (I guarantee its dirty) when all clean , place bulb down in grove and make sure it seats well then secure with ring and replace screws (don't over tighten) you might as well replace the fuel lines as they come in kit , instructions are on pkg , I do suggest doing one at a time to not forget how they go , and do use the new fuel filter that's inside pkg too

My Ryobi 700R "EZ" weedeater smokes excessively.

Check the fuel/oil mix ratio you are using. Some Ryobis use a 32:1 mix and some use a 40:1 mix. There isn't much difference there. To be on the safe side, if you machine is possibly running or tuned a little "lean" I would start off with about 4 oz/gallon oil to gas mix. Use synthetic 2-stroke oil also. Your machine will perform much better.

Ryobi 700r gas trimmer. Leaking fuel from the fuel return line...what is the best way to fix this?...seems to be leaking where the tube goes up into the fuel tank. thanks.

There is no nipple. The fuel line is just pushed through and holds itself tight against the hole in the tank.

This is the return line from the primer bulb, right?

Just replace the line and you should be fine. I think that some of these Ryobi lines are 3/16 OD and 3/32 ID, but I just picked up a Ryobi fuel line kit at Home Depot today, and the black line seems to fit nicely here. (My trimmer still won't start, but at least it doesn't leak gas any more.) Be careful to note which line comes from where on the orimer bulb.
