The service 50 error indicates a bad fuser assembly. You can get one on Ebay for less than $50. To replace the fuser just open the door on the back of the printer, inside you will see the fuser, unscrew the 2 screws and pull the old one out. Insert the new fuser and screw it down, power on the printer and you should be good to go.
I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.
A 50 Service error is a fuser error. Turn the printer off for 5 to 10 minutes, then turn it back on. If the error is still there, I think your going to need to make a service call you can try reseating the fuser, but be sure to let the fuser cool completely before touching it. Good Luck the HP Laserjet 4p is a great printer.
If the display panel reads 50 FUSER ERROR, CYCLE POWER, turn the printer off for 15 minutes. This allows the capacitor that is responsible for signaling this error to discharge. If you don't wait 15 minutes you will continue to get this error even if you have replaced the fuser. If it continues to show the error, then you need to replace the fuser. It is easy to replace.
The fuser maintenance kit is about $119. on the web. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe

If you still have the 50 Service error after reseating the fuser, you might need a new fuser.
You can access the fuser by opening the rear door. It's located directly above the paper tray. There are two screws that hold it in place. Remove those two screws, and the fuser slides outs.
Hope this helps.
Error 50 is a fuser unit fault code. You can take apart the fuser unit and see if the fuser lamp is functional. Also check some of the other thermal parts on the fuser. If everything checks out, you will probably have to replace the thermistor. You will need to see if it will be cost effective to replace the necessary parts (Brother parts are not cheap), or to buy a new printer.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
