Turntable tonearm returns but starts playing record over again.

I have a Pioneer PL-570 fully automatic turntable. At the end of playing a record, the tonearm does one of three things randomly. 1) It returns the tonearm to its home position and the turntable shuts off, which is what it should do. 2) Sometimes the tonearm doesn't come back at all after the record is done playing and I either have to manually return the tonearm to its home position which shuts off the turntable or press the Stop button which will return the tonearm to its home position and shut the turntable off. 3) My latest problem is that the tonearm returns to its home position but doesn't shut off and starts playing the record again and again and again as if the Repeat button was engaged. What do you think is the problem?

The solution was quite insightful and very helpful. Based on the last statement, I guess I won't be trying to fix this myself. Thanks.

My Pioneer PL-570 tone arm returns but will not shut off. It keeps playing like the repeat button is on.

on page 8 of the above service manual for your model it shows 4 electrical switches that tell the computer what 'state' the mechanism is in at any given time. Either one or more of the switches are intermittant or the mechanism has dried up grease that is slowing down the operation and basically gumming up the works. the old grease would have to be removed and replaced when it is causing binding. The switch just to the right of where is says "microswitch ksf-023" is an 'open air' type and so would be the most likely suspect. it simply needs to be cleaned with a super fine file designed only for cleaning switch contacts. THIS SERVICE SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL ONLY!!!!!

This is not exactly the problem that I have as the tone arm simply does not progress to the end of the record. I am not sure how to fix this.

KT 750. Why doesn't tonearm return at the end of a record?

i do not think this is an automatic turntable. Most higher end turntables are not. You will just have to pick the tonearm up and put it back. If you want an automatic one, look for an older technics automatic turntable. They work pretty good for what they are.

Pioneer Pl990 turntable sounds awful.... I have a pioneer pl 990 record player connected to a pioneer amplifier and a sony CD player. when I play an LP, the sound is bass heavy and I can hardly hear t

When the turntable plays, do you get a howling bass heavy sound? Have you tried turning down the volume and bass? If that corrects the problem, you have what's known as Acoustic Feedback. Check to make sure the tonearm is properly set up first. If it is, please visit my website at Audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there. Thank you.

Aiwa turntable px-e860: Hi, I've inherited this timetable from a friend and it's worked fine until recently but now here's the problem: if I push start, the arm lifts up, moves to the record...

Hi, I;m not familiar with that exact model however the problem you are describing is commonly caused by the automatic operation at some point not being allowed to complete its full operation. Ie the tonearm has been returned manually to its rest position before reaching the end of the record. Try this. With the player not powered up lift the tonearm across to the record run off groove and sit it there. You may feel some resistance which is normal as the mech has to eswt itself. Now turn on the power and turntable. The arm should automatically return from there to its rest. Try auto operation after that. Let me know how you go. Cheers John. [email protected]

Converting a turntable from automatic to manual

I suppose the only way to do it would be to stop it functioning completely. The only way would be to dissasemble the auto function. What you would need to do is work out which parts are essential for the turntable operation and which only activate the return. So you need to whatch the mechanism working. You will need to remove the base and look at from underneath, just like going underneath a car!
I can't say for certain if you can do it, only you will be able to determine it can be removed without affecting the operation of the entire turntable.

Tonearm goes to record and returns to start position without ever playing the record

Do you have an adjustable piece at the end nearest the pivot point [the bit that goes into the turntable] if you do then adjust the weight so there is more downward pressure on the record [ or just try putting weight on the tonearm ] and see if this helps

Tonearm on turntable wont stay on record

Remove the motor assy and you will see the main nylon large gear, it had 2 metal cams under the one screw on top of it. One is the start cam and it must slide freely on top of the other one cam. Over time the grease binds up under the start cam and it doesnt move back in as the motor moves the nylon cogs around and so it start over gain and again. Degrease and lightly lube the metal cam so it moves freely by using your finger, reassemble and test.

Pioneer PL-670 record rejects continually

Are the record size tabs sticking up through the turntable platter cover? They sense the size of the record being played and adjust the run out distance for either 45 or 33 rpm records.

Pioneer PL-570 turntable (c.1973)

Yes first check is that the Gnd wire from your turntable is connected to the Gnd (ground) post at the back of your amplifier with a good clean tight connection.
If the problem persists, check ALL your hi-fi components mains plugs for earth connections including your turntable, then remove the earth connections on all but one component so that you are left with only item earthed.
What does sometimes cause problems is if 2 or more hi-fi separates are earthed and connected to each other the earth cables along with the hi-fi interconnects form an inductive loop that picks up interferance such as mains hum etc.
