I've owned my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 and Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 for about 4 months now. I haven't had any problems with them up until about a week ago. Now, it seems that when I leave my chair and return minutes later... the mouse will not respond. The pointer doesn't move. And when you lift the mouse and check the red LED light... it's stuck in a "bright" shine mode. For those of you who own an optical mouse... you know that the LED alternates between bright and dim, based upon the movement of the mouse. The only way I'm able to return the mouse to operational condition is to remove the batteries and re-install them. Then, it begins to function perfectly. The keyboard is working fine, the receiver unit is within 12" of both the keyboard and mouse. There are no other devices within close proximity to the mouse or keyboard that might cause interference. I assume I'll just have to replace the mouse, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced this exact issue.
I would agree that a new one may be needed. i have a desktop set that, the mouse had failed. i got a better microsoft mouse, and i was able to use it with the desktop set.and have all of the functions of the new mouse through the original receiver. hope this helps! good luck.
I had the same problem. I too thought it was the problem with the mouse itself but then just took a chance and changed the batteries. It worked. When the battery goes even a tad bit lower in its current supply ( I mean same voltage but lesser current) the mouse stops responding or is less responsive than usual indicating the need to change the batteries. Install the latest Intellipoint drivers from microsoft where it shows the battery level and change it as required.

I have the same problem although my mouse only worked for a few minutes, then caused the buttons on the labtop to stop working and I had to restart the computer. The red light is on brightly on the mouse but it doesn't do anything. I have pressed the buttons to reset but it doesn't seem to work.
