Camera wont take photo

I have a Sony DSC S40 which will turn on but not take a photo. The AE/AF lock light and Flash charge lamp both come on when I press the shutter and a green light is in the display. It will sometimes take a photo when first turned on but then wont. I have looked at all the settings but cant resolve it. Any suggestions

Make sure you have good batteries- Alkaline batteries are not powerful enough- must be Ni-Cad or Ni-Mah

Have you contacted the Sony Tech Support as suggested?

How do you turn off AE/AF Lock on a Nikon D90?

You may download a copy of the manual from here.

By default the AE/AF Lock only holds while you hold down the AE/AF Lock button on the back of the camera. If you've changed the configuration so that this button locks the AE/AF, you can unlock it either by pressing the button again or by turning the camera off and on again.

What is the red flash when I take a picture on my sony DSC-P200?

This is the AF Illuminator function. Turns the AF Assist light on or off. If on, the light automatically illuminates in dark shooting conditions.

This and other details can find in the DSCP200 User Guide

Turning off flash

here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://www.sony.co.uk/support/ShowSupportProductManuals.action?supportProductModelName=DSC-S40&targetTab=download&site=odw_en_GB§iontype=Support towards the bottom left of page 2 is all the info you need i think. If for any reason this doesn't work then post again for a fix, in emergency you can stick a few pieces of black pvc electrical tape over the flash - any glue left afterwards will come off with cotton wool and a little cleaning alcohol/rubbing alcohol (dont saturate it). Hope this helps :)
