Your screen sounds fine, most likely just your backlight going out, either that or you could have hit the key for using an external monitor (function f6 is the LCD/external monitor switch for my computer). I'd look into the function f6 and play around with that, if not you can just buy a new backlight from ebay or an internet supplier.

I just went though airport security, but now my screen is too dark to work with. I have tried taking out the batterie, and I have restarted my computer a few times. It was working fine this morning.

Airport security probably turned off your screen's backlight. On my Acer Aspire One Netbook it is turned on/off by pressing Fn key and while holding it, pressing F6.

Touch pad and mouse butons don't work at all.

On laptops, sometimes your TouchPad is disabled for no apparent reason. To reactivate it, first try restarting your PC. If there’s no good change just try:

We need the software driver and your mouse are installed

This trick works in Windows XP and Vista
Go to Control Panel> Mouse> Settings tab of the device
Click <Enable> (or <Disable> to disable)

Please go through this image, will help you..

Notes:
On some models, there is a keyboard shortcut to activate or deactivate the touchpad. For example, a ACER, just do Fn + F7.
You can click Reset device if neither of those solutions will work. ..

Please revert for further clarification....

Acer aspirw 5100 brightness

1.The Function key (Fn), and the F6 key are pressed to turn the Backlight off to conserve power.

2.The Fn key and the right side arrow key, are pressed to increase Brightness.

You have a TFT LCD monitor screen. (Thin Film Transistor)
The LCD screen cannot be seen clearly without a Backlight.

The Backlight is a CCFL. Cold Cathode Fluorescent
tube. Resembles a small fluorescent tube used in residential, and commercial lighting.

The Backlight can go bad after time, and weaken.
If so, it will have to be replaced.

Sounds easy, it isn't.

The TFT LCD monitor screen is made up of layers. It's enclosed in a thin metal frame. Resembles a picture frame.

The frame is removed, after removing the LCD screen from the laptop's top cover.

The LCD screen transparent outside layers, are separated partially from the rest of the LCD screen.
The Backlight is removed out of the side.

This gives you an example of removing, and replacing an average Backlight,

Function F6 works only sometimes to blackout screen on acer aspire 5315

I just came here looking for a solution to the same problem. I have an Aspire 1800 which has a front panel of buttons for the Arcade mode. Basically i just wiped all the buttons again resonably vigiously as i was pissed off and low and behold the FnF6 works again. I tried this after i read another artical suggesting the removal of the touchpad driver. so obviously something is still depressed much like a sticky key which basically switches the screen immediatly back on as i had a flicker at least when i did FnF6. Hope this helps..
