Noticed the other day my Frigidaire FRT15B3A wasn't freezing the freezer compartment. All the food had spoiled. The lower refrigerator seems to be working fine. Pulled it away from the wall (it's a garage fridge) to check the coils on the back for dust/crud, but they were okay. Increased the temperature control, came back the next day and things were freezing again! Put a thermometer in the freezer box and got a reading of 23 degrees. Thought it might have fixed itself, but alas, the freezer is unfrozen again today. What does this sound like?
That's an interesting solution. We have had a spate of cold weather (colder than usual, even for Huntsville, AL) and the garage area has been quite cold. I'll check out the price of the kit and give it a try. I'll report back if the kit fixes the problem, or if we return to more normal temps before I can get it, whether the freezer returns to normal.
Thanks!

THE UINT IS FROZE UP, YOU WILL NEED TO DEFROST IT. USE A FAN TO BLOW INTO THE FREEZER PORTION , AND HAVE LOTS OF BIG THIRSTY TOWELS HANDY .. THIS WILL TAKE ABOUT 2 HOURS TO DEFROST, WIPE EVERY THING INSIDE THE UNIT DRY !... JAY THE POOL PUMP MOTOR REPAIR GUY FLORIDA
Hi, both compartment of the refrigerator (freezer & fridge) not freezing and getting cold means you have low or empty freon (gas) in the compressor of the refrigerator and you need to refill it as soon as possible.
Good day,
This problem appears in spades this time of year, every year.
The problem becomes more severe when the temperatures in the house cools down and is made even worse if the usage of the machine becomes lighter.
It occurs when the machine is off, not on.
There is an open vent, near the bottom, between the freezer compartment and the fresh food compartment. This opening or vent is necessary when the machine is running, so that the air pumped into the top of the fresh food section, can return to the freezer compartment. This is by design.
Now,
When the machine is off, the zero degree air from the freezer compartment. can drift into the fresh food compartmnet and drop the temps near the bottom to below freezing.
Off time increases substantialy at this time of year.
Some have even recommended turning the controls colder to offset the problem, but I've no proof it works well, or even a little.
SXS and top freezer models experience it more than bottom freezer models.
Check rear wall of freezer by feel for frost. Heavy, even frost indicates likely problem in the defrost system. Unplug unit. Defrost heater (in freezer behind rear wall panel), defrost thermostat (same area-must be checked at freezer temperature) or Defrost timer-located lower back outside of unit. Near compressor. Do continuity test on heater and defrost thermostat and if they show continuity (good), replace defrost timer. If not, replace the one that tests bad.
Defrost coils fully. Reassemble.

Refrigerator will work about 7-10 days after being defrosted until thick frost builds up again cutting off air flow to both compartments
Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.
Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
You may be having a freon issue. Read some more info about this here. I type the longer version on my site. There are also factory service manuals to that may be helpful.
