I scan a document into the scanner naming it JC8 and it created a PDF file as JC80000. How do I get rid of the 4 zero's at the end of the naming convention?
The 4 zeroes at the end are added on purpose. If you are scanning a set of documents, say 11 pages, to maintain the sequence the scanner scans them as abcd0001, abcd0002 till abcd 0011. Without 4 zeroes, the first file will be abcd1, abcd2....abcd10, abcd11. Now in the Computer the sequence will be abcd1, abcd10, abcd11, abcd2 till abcd9, altering the sequence. If you are scanning into PDF, the scanned images will be added automatically maintaining sequence.

The scanner allows you to scan in batches and you can select a convenient name for a batch. If you start the first batch as 'A', then the first image will be 'A001.tif' , second as 'A002.tif' etc. If the next batch is 'B', then it will be, B001.tif, B002.tif etc.

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/). This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.

Sounds like the shading compensation strips may be dirty and/or sticking. Otherwise the scan sensor is going out.
To check and clean the the shading compensation strips:
Open the feeder up all the way and hold down the red stop button.
...in about 5 seconds the upper and lower shading compensation strips will pop up.
They may be getting stuck and not popping out all the way (about 1/2")
Clean them up with a small brush and a lint free rag with alcohol.
If the shading sensor strips aren't popping out all the way, this will cause the problem you described, so clean them up and repeat this several times.
(They pop up during the document scanning process)
If they still aren't popping out after cleaning them up, then there may be a mechanical problem with the mechanism.
Hope this helps! You may need a tech.
I am in Dallas, Texas if you are local to me I can put an eye on it.

The scanner utilizes CapturePerfect and adds the four zeros at the end of the naming convention after it has been scanned into CapturePerfect.
