I have an older Sears model 139.53210 that when you either push the remote or the button it travels about 12" and then stops and returns. It did have one roller that came out of the track (which I did put back into the track) and when that happened the worm gear wore the plastic teeth off the plastic gear (not the worm gear). Went to Sears and got the replacement parts, installed them and now have the travel problem. I have tried to adjust the all the adjustments and nothing works.

Same exact situation. I think the chain has streched over the years and now has too much slack in it when it starts to push the door down. the chain buckles for a second and then reverses to full open position. Works properly 2 out of 3 times, however 1 out of the 3 times the door starts and returns to the full open position.
Sounds like the same problem here. It is just the trolley for me not the weight of the door causing the problem. I first had it where it was going all the way down and reversing and then coming up to the top and slamming to a stop. I adjusted it so it didn't have that problem at the top but it was still reversing. Then it was cycling down and popping up about 12".
Now it is just doing the 12" movement thing.
On the inside of the unit the travel distance is not being affected by the little sled like piece in the middle of the up and down travel screws - the little sled moves but nothing contacts the arms causing it to stop, so I am not sure what the problem is.
It is not the sensors and not the door though.
Same issue as above. I have tried adjusting down force. The up and down force was already set on "5" (which seems high compared to what I have seen on the internet). But I adjusted it up and down and it had no (noticeable) effect.
I have replaced the RPM sensor adjusted the up force and down force (Marty), checked the nylon bushings and gears and it still goes down about 8 inches, then up again 8 inches. I am not getting any flashing codes (5 or 10) that would lead me to believe that it is a safety sensor problem. Tiem to buy another?
I have the same problem.... I replaced all the worn gears and checked all the settings. As I try and close the door, it travels about 12" and stops and goes back up. I can't figure out what causes that. If the door is closed it opens perfectly fine. It only happens when the door is trying to close.

I HAVE THE EXACTLY SAME PROBLEM , I REMPLACE THE GEAR AND THEN ..................NOTHING RUN DOWN 2 OR 3 SECONDS AND THEN GO UP ................
Same as the others. The drive gear was stripped, we replaced that and the door keeps cycling up and down 8" each time we press the button. We adjusted all the adjustments (including the down force) at one point or another and none of the adjustments changed the situation. Not making any difference. Sounds like we all have the same problem. What else can we check?
I share the frustration. Â Replaced the gear and as well as the rest of the kit and now it travels two feet stops and reverses
