QAM Tuner difference between Toshiba & Samsung

I have a Toshiba Regza and a Samsung HD TVs with QAM tuner but the Toshiba does not tune in all the channels that the Samsung does. Both are on the same Comcast cable feed without any digital converter box. Just basic cable. The Samsung can tune in more digital channels than the Toshiba. How is that possibe? Can the Toshiba's firmware be upgraded to receive more digital channels from cable. The Toshiba was purchased in 1/08 and the Samsung was purchased in 9/08. What gives?

    I can't get any digital channels on my toshiba regza. I hooked up an hd digital antenna to it, but still having trouble. Does it need an external digital converter box?

What is the best converter box to use with toshiba regza 42hl67 flat screen tv?
As far as I can make out, this Toshiba model is made for the US market so doesn't actually have a freeview tuner. It will only receive satellite and cable HD signals and local US TV, all of which has to be bought. You need to get something like an August DVB400 - HD Freeview Set Top Box -Digital PVR Tuner with USB TV Recording, eBay would be best I think, where they are sold for under £30.00. The tuner packed up on my 32" Regza so I bought one of these and it works fine. Plus you can record to a USB stick if you don't want to miss a programme. Hope this helps ......BS

Does the tv model sylvania tvk191 have a qam tuner?
If the TV is sold in the UK, then yes it has a QAM tuner.

All TVs have to be able to pick up Freeview to legally be sold as a TV in the UK. Freeview is the public name for the DVB-T service which is our Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial service. DVB-T is just the standard definition channels. DVB-T2 is the version of Freeview that includes HD as well as SD channels. The QAMs are the way in which the signal is encoded. But it's really a level of detail that you don't need to go to. It's sufficient to know that the tuner is ether DVB-T for SD only, or DVB-T2 to pick up SD and HD.

To get HD channel form your cable TV without using the cable provider HD tuner box but using your TV Clear QAM tuner (your TV has Clear QAM tuner, my TV also has QAM tuner so I do not have to use the cabel box, but my COMCAST does not provide may Clear QAM signals like they use to) to get the unscrambled HD, the cable provider must provide those unscrambled Clear QAMsignals for your TV to pick up the signalS.

I would like to run my Toshiba 15LV505 w/o a FIOS set-top box. FIOS says a QAM tuner enables channels 1-49 from a cable from the wall, but I only get snow. How do I enable the QAM?

Can't view local HD with built-in QAM tuner on Sharp Aquos LED
I found this solution at ehow.com and it works: http://www.ehow.com/how_5417083_hd-channels-comcast.html. You'll just have to switch over to another input to view the HD channels.

Sounds like a bad tuner/decoder on the Qam analog side of things. You can bypass this with a Clear qam converter box or a analog to digital tuner box or simply having this repaired upwards of $200 bucks.

    How do i know if my tv has a quam tuner im not
    First it is QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) and is used only on cable systems. Know that you will only get clear-QAM, this is, those not encrypted. This means only the local channels, which they are not allowed to encrypt. It will switch automatically, so if you get any HD it will be QAM. They will have names like 85-1 for digital source, not necessarily HD. Not all set-top boxes can tune digital channels--check with your cable system. You have called them? Be sure to remind them on your STB make and model, they may need to replace it. -Ken

    Ready for nat'l digital transition?
    If it is an older model (i couldn't find anything on it either), it most likely does NOT have a QAM tuner. Be aware that only the "un-encrypted" cable channels will be free otherwise you will have to buy or rent the digital box from the company to get the rest of the regular digital channels. The un-encrypted channels are like 71.2, 83.7 so you should know if you are getting those or not.
