Hot microwave door handle

Got a new stainless steel microwave oven with an integral fan mounted above a standard oven with a 5-burner stove top. The metal (stainless) door handle extends outwards from the door face itself. The problem is that this handle gets pretty hot when the burner beneath it (front and right) is used. The plastic handle of the older microwave oven that it replaced didn't have this problem.

I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

SOURCE: Panasonic NN-T687 (The Genius) door

You will need to remove the oven from the frame, then remove the outer cover from the door.

Once the outer cover's off, you'll be able to see that door opening button presses against the door opening lever, which presses up on the door key/hook to open the door.

Usually the problem is a broken door opening lever.

You can order that part directly from Panasonic here.

Once it's fixed, if you want to download the owner's manual, it's here.

SOURCE: Door handle broke off

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

You can get Samsung parts here.

SOURCE: Stainless Steel oven door dent fix

The best repair is to take apart the door panels, bang the dent pout from the other side, then sand and polish it smooth.

Otherwise, there may be some dent filler you can use, then sand and smooth it.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

SOURCE: GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 Microwave Model # JVM1870SF001

(I also replied via e-mail)

Sorry, but the subject lines get cut off after so many characters.

Thanks for replying.

Part # DE63-00204A looks like a valid Samsung part number but it doesn't show up anywhere, so it's likely a proprietary part made only for GE and not available separately.

You can see a helpful exploded view of this model here.

Then you can go here and enter your model number and come up with the parts list. This site has much better prices than GE.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Chances are you will end up having to but more than you want to, but not the whole door.

SOURCE: Paint off inside top of microwave exposing metal. Safe to use?

It would be dangerous to do so. Any exposed metal inside a microwave is source for sparks and is extremely hazardous. I would recommend getting the paint job done up, or even better, buy a newer model.

Ace 208 comes up with "hot" in display amana tech say not possible no code like this

Hello I´ve repaired a couple of ACE208 with hot message in the display. The problem is in the convection fan located on the back of the oven cavity, turn the oven on and quickly open the door and look inside to see if the fan is spinning (slowing down, the fan stopps when you open the door but you can see it slowing down) if it is not spinning the supporting screws of the fan sometimes loosen up causing the fan to hit the oven walls preventing the fan to spin freely -probably before the problem started to happen you could hear a loud noise- the fan can´t move the air throgh the warming elements causing them to overheat hence the hot message. The fan motor rarely fails so all you need to do is remove the stainless steel cover and the back black cover and tighten the mounting screws of the convection fan and clean it if it´s dirty. Hope this helps, both the ovens with hot message I have repaired get the green tag just by doing this or replacing the motor, I have no knowledge of other problems that may cause this.

Remove a whirlpool over the range microwave oven

Jim here. In cabinet above microwave, locate 2 mounting bolts.
Place a box on the stove top to support the microwave once the mounting bolts are removed (you may wish to cover the box with a thick towel or small throw rug).
Procedure:
1. Unplug microwave.
2. Remove both mounting bolts from top of microwave (they secure it to the overhead cabinet).
3. With microwave front angled down onto box, pull some of power cord out of hole (to provide some moving space).
4. With microwave hand supported, remove box from stove top (a second set of hands would be helpful here).
5. HARD PART- detach top of microwave back from wall mounting plate by placing a hand under the bottom rear of the microwave and pushing up. (Wall mounting plate is screwed into the wall behind the microwave and provides both top and bottom support to the back of the microwave.)
6. Lower front of microwave until you can see about a 1-inch clearance between the top-rear of the microwave and the cabinet above it.
7. Firmly lift the microwave straight up and then bring forward. It should be free of the wall mounting plate.

Acceptable distance from cook top surface to microwave?

Sorry but your subject line got cut off. I'll assume you're talking about the distance from the cooktop to the top of the microwave (bottom of the cabinet to which it's mounted).

Here's how the installation instructions spec it:
  • "Make sure the bottom edge of the cabinet that will be above the microwave oven is at least 66" from the floor and 30" from the cooking surface."
So it's measured from the cooktop to the top of the microwave, not the bottom edge.

And I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

You can also download your owner's manual form the link I posted above.

My microwave lost all power.

The plug should be located in the small cabinet above the stove. Leave it unpluged at least for 10 minutes. Mine does it occasionally when it gets hot. I haven't had a problem since I turn the fan on when I run it.

Does stove-top need downdraft if microwave has oven-hood combo?

We have a stove with no downdraft, and a microwave with a hood above it. It works just fine. I expect you could keep your downdraft and put a microwave without a hood above it, and that would also work. I don't think, however, you can buy an above the range mocrowave oven, that slides in on brackets, which will not have a hood.
