My playstation 3 just recently started freezing. It starts to freeze about 5 seconds after i turn it on. It does not even reach the main menu, it freezes while the waves of colors are still showing. I have tried everything, holding the power button for ten seconds and starting it over, making sure there is no tear in the wires and they are all plugged in right, it is not the video game, and my ps3 is only almost 2 years old. i have not dropped it or got any liquid in it, it just randomly started freezing one day and i am not sure what to do about it Every time i turn on my ps3 its starts but its freezes everytime before the main menu. i can just see the waves in the background and heare the background music. the main menu never showes up. the controlers cant neither connect to the ps3 they just blink a couple of times and then turn of again.
I had the same problem bud. I rushed and contacted sony but the next day my friend told me a great solution tht safed me 150 $. Well basicly your ps3 is lika a PC. All you nerd to do is to get to the hard drive menu. By holding the power button for 10 sec but do that for 3 times. That will take you to the blue menu. From there just reset your hard drive and wola brand new.

look i can reset it evryday cause for me evry day that i turn my ps3 on i onley see the waves !!! i reseted my ps freaking 10 times losing all my thing 10 times and still it dous this too meee !!!!!!
to king1ping1: click restore ps3. It will fix your ps3 and it wont delete any data!

Contact sony 1800-345-7669
Hold down the power button until it beeps twice, then plug in the usb charger. After that when it gives you a list of things to do, scroll down to restore system.
It will probably restore twice, then it will restart your ps3.
The source of the problem is you probably corrupted your ps3 by unplugging the power chord, or pressing the power button in the middle of a game. Hope this helps!

Try Accessing the Ps3 Recovery Menu
Turn off Ps3
Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again
Once the system has been shutdown, re-press your finger until you hear 2 consecutive (quick) beeps
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button
You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the ps button
The recovery menu will pop up

* restore default settings
* restore file system
*rebuild database
*restore ps3
*system update
Now I was not sure which one to choose. I clicked restart system and that did NOT work so I clicked restore ps3 and lost everything but it DEFINITELY WORKED!!

I have the same problem but will resetting your harddrive delete all of your saved game files?
