My archos 605 won't do anything but to show recovery code 102.

I was think maybe there is something was wrong with the Firmware so i decided to download the new firmware that was available at Archos.com. at the white screen wen you see the white screen keep hitting no rapidly until it starts up to your regular screen. If you must try the recovery. Anything to get to the main screen. Then try putting the updated fimware into the root directory after you connect via USB. Then try rest settings.

there's a possible error on the disk or the archos storage, - a certain corrupt file could possibly the one making the unit into freeze..

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it These are the steps i followed
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc
* When the white screen comes up do format
* Wait until all done then put the firmware in to the root sector of the Archos
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug in back to pc
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving wait until it is all done and it will shut off. Turn it back on Your archos will be back to normal.
When you go to download from Archos site it will explain how to download depending upon how your device pops up on your Pc.

Remove your memory card and restart your archos, when it asks if you want to repair blahblah... just keep pressing the cross till it loads as normal with the sd card 'out', this should work, to stop it happening in the future format your memory card 'sd' with your archos once it has started. This may work but it may not my Archos use to do something like that too. What you do is when it comes on press the on but again but not hard or long enough for it to shut down and tap the screen do this reaptedly untill you see the red light start to flas reaptedly really quickly without stop then it will stop and flash two or three more times untill you see your screen come up oh nd next time dont full shutdown just suspend it it is easier and it doesnt take up battery life either.

i had same issue. nothing worked until i saw a guy who fixed his by dropping it on floor?
i dropped my archos in the protective case from 2 feet off floor. the bloody thing when came back to life, 100% good. i think the hard drive was stuck and the fall fixed it!! it cannot hurt as yours is broken still i guess. hope it works for you to

Hi everybody i just got off with archos USA tech support there is no other way but to send it in and they wil replace the HDD with a new one. If the archos is not under warranty repair cost is $ 172.50 i think you can buy another one for that price. Although they give you 90 days warranty for their fix.

Same issue on my Archos 605 wifi 4GB
The Repair didn't work so here's what I did.
1) connected via USB and got all my Picture, Videos and Music to a safe place.
2) Downloaded firmware update.

3. Copied update to root of archos drive and rebooted
4. Archoes installed the update and rebooted and came up to desktop again
5. reinstalled plugins (thank god I saved them) copied plug-in to root.
6. Back on the road again
