This is a Cyberpower PC - yes I know tech support is non-existent.
Husband noticed the cooler fan didn't seem to be running all of the time. I don't believe the PC overheated, but the cooler fan wasn't running like it had before. Then noticed one of the LED lights on the fan blinks sporadically. Everything else was fine. Then the computer would shut down abruptly for no reason. CPU temp was 75 - 80. Would restart, windows would come up no problems. Same thing, 2 or 3 minutes later computer would shut down. Now when I try to start it up, I get the the windows recovery window, try to start it in safe mode, it hangs then eventually shuts down. Try last good configuration, shuts downs. Try to start normal, sometimes it gets to the little windows vista bar before the main window comes up, then shuts down.
When tech support got back to me he suggested that maybe they would send me a new cooling kit to install myself, didn't address any of the above. HELP!
I'm pretty comfortable making most repairs if necessary.

First you can connect hard drive as slave to another PC to retrieve any data you need, and then try a reinstall of operating system to this drive or make a complete format .
If it will start up at all the cpu is not fried,
Change the fan and blow out the dust while your at it.
You said the leds on the fan is going off and on. Do the fans seem to slow when that happens??
You will need to check 2 things first off. Have the powersupply tested first, if that fine then try to test the motherboard.
Also try to unplug the fan that has the blinking problem, and see if it runs. (DONT LET IT RUN TO LONG WITHOUT THE FAN)
Also it would not be the hard drive because of dust in it. If you have dust in the drive then the drive is trashed. The are air tight sealed. If for some reason the seal is broken then the drive is no good anymore.
actually is that 80 celsius hope not because they run average 50 celsius = about 120 fahrenheit so 40 to 50c is safe.

If you have these symptoms on your PC:
System restarts on its own

Any number of different things. Almost all PSU symptoms are also symptoms of another failure. For instance, a dying PSU can cause lockups or invalid page faults or disconnections from the Internet.
Computer may not power on or may not complete PoST
Drives may not work intermittently
Multiple drives must be replaced repeatedly
Crackling audio
Computer running slowly
Drives intermittently not detected
Most probably power supply needs to be replaced.

This problem is really cause by overheating of your computer system, and you really need a working cooling fan to solve the problem...
Hi i had this same problem. the reason for dis kind of problem is that the formation of dust in ur hard disk. its better to clean up ur hard disk wid any air sucking device or clean it smoothly wid any kind of cleaning material. try to re install ur operatin system again. ur problem will get solved.
He's right; 75-80 is way to hot for a CPU; it is overheating and therefore shutting down. The cooling kit *should* fix the problem provided the cpu hasn't been damaged from the excessive heat.

If the CPU is damaged, what are my options at that point? Can we retrieve any recent info from the pc?
Going to try a new cooling system, then a power supply, we'll see how it works out. Thanks for everyone's advice.
