Here are the step by step instructions from the owners manual for your machine.
Disconnect cleaner from electrical outlet. WARNING: Agitator brush roll can start suddenly. Unplug cleaner before turning it over. Replacing Flat Belt Place handle in low position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is facing up. Remove the 6 screws as shown with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift off bottom plate. Replace belt if it is stretched, cut or broken. To check the flat belt. Removing Bottom Plate Removing Belt Positioning Belt Remove used belt from large pulley and discard. Reposition bottom plate and 6 Phillips head screws. Tighten screws securely. Insert agitator brush roll through belt and position belt in groove (A) on agitator brush roll. Inspecting V-Belt The V-belt is designed to last for a long time and is not normally replaced. However, if the V-belt is cracked, gouged or broken, it should be replaced. Slide flat belt off large pulley. To remove V-belt, slide back of belt over pulley (A). Then firmly pull on belt and “snap” it out. Discard used belt. To install new belt (with lettering on outside of belt), slide back of belt over pulley and pull front of belt toward groove next to pulley. Belt will “pop” into place. Flat Belt: What to Buy Use only genuine HOOVER belts with your cleaner. When purchasing a new belt, ask for Flat belt - HOOVER part No. 40201-271. V-Belt: What to Buy Use only genuine HOOVER belts with your cleaner. When purchasing a new belt, ask for V belt - HOOVER part No. 40201-200.

The best way to install the belt on a Hoover to replace one or both of the belts @ the same time for the best cleaning. The average belt change is every 4 to 6 months for best results. There is a tool that looks like a screwdriver that has a right or left angle on the end that serves as a belt puller and to hook the belt(s) onto the brushroll 1st and then take your puller and then pull or stretch the belt onto the motor pulley. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover very noisy after new belt installed.

what is the belt # you have installed (generic)? Yes, there are problems with using generic belts on Hoover Vacuums. If you have noise I would suspect the roller, and replace it. the cost is about $25 and is something that you can install. The newer type are mande of wood and are very quiet.

I need help installing the beater bar belt

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 WindTunnel. All you need to do id to remove the bottom plate by removing either the screws, clips or levers and the bottom plate should come right off, and then you can get @ the belt – if not then the top cover will come off and then you can serv it from the top if needed. Then you can lift up the one end of the Hoover brushroll and then slide the new belt on to the pulley side of the brushroll and then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a hook on the end and then pull the belt onto the motor pulley. Then track the belt in a straight line. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How to change the belt on a Hoover High Performance upright vacuum cleaner

Generic problem for all Vacuums
How to change the belt
How to change the belt on a Hoover High Performance upright vacuum cleaner

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Most of the Hoover upright vacuums service from the bottom and to start remove the bottom plate, that should expose the belt – if this is the case, some Hoover’s might be self propelled, if not the self-propelled vacs have 2 belts and the non self propelled models have one belt – so remove the belt(s) and then lift up on the brushroll and slide the belt onto the belt pulley then take a screwdriver tool with a hook on the end and stretch the belt onto the motor shaft – once this has been done the track the belt(s) and it should straighten out and run straight, re-install the bottom plate, plug in and test. If you cannot get @ the belt from the bottom the look for 2 or 3 screws – remove the screws and the top cover will lift off and then follow the procedure mentioned above… Questions? Please feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in your area or in the yellow pages or contact the Hoover factory for more details.
