SOURCE: Qosmio g15 recovery disk error

If the discs are clean and pretty much scratch free, then this is most likely a bad hard drive. If you have another PC or laptop, try burning copies of the recovery cds and then use those. If the problem remains, you will need a new hard drive.

SOURCE: I am in need to install recovery console

Here's How:
Boot From the Windows XP CD
ccb175b.jpg
To enter Recovery Console in Windows XP, you will need to boot from the Windows XP CD.

  1. Watch for a Press any key to boot from CD... message similar to the one shown above.

  2. Press a key to force the computer to boot from the Windows CD. If you do not press a key, your PC will continue to boot to the Windows XP installation that's currently installed on your hard drive. If this happens, simply reboot and try to boot to the Windows XP CD again.
Press R to Enter Recovery Console
0da5a15.jpg
When the Windows XP Professional/Home Setup screen appears, press R to enter Recovery Console.

Choose the Windows Installation
2ef066b.jpg
The Recovery Console is now loading but needs to know which Windows installation to access. Most users only have a single Windows XP installation so the choice is usually clear.
To the Which Windows installation would you like to log onto question, press 1 and then Enter.

Enter the Administrator Password
df4e182.jpg

The Recovery Console now needs to know the administrator password for this Windows XP installation. Unless you are using a PC in a sizable business network, the administrator password is most likely the same password you use to access Windows XP on a daily basis.
To the Type the Administrator password request, enter the password and press Enter.
Note: If you do not have a password or Windows XP normally starts without asking for one, simply press Enter.

Make Necessary Changes in Windows XP Recovery Console

dd45e92.jpg
The Recovery Console is now fully loaded and the cursor should be sitting at the command prompt, ready for input, as shown in the screen shot above.
Make any changes necessary in the Windows XP Recovery Console. When complete, take out the Windows XP CD and type exit to restart the computer.

  1. When you reach the command prompt (detailed in Step 6 in the link above), type the following command and then press Enter.
    bootcfg /rebuild
  2. The bootcfg utility will scan your hard drives for any Windows XP installations and then display the results. Follow the remaining steps to add your Windows XP installation to the boot.ini file.
  3. The first prompt asks Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All).
Type Y in response to this question and press Enter.
  4. The next prompt asks you to Enter Load Identifier:.
This is the name of the operating system. For example, type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition and press Enter.
  5. The final prompt asks you to Enter OS Load options:.
Type /Fastdetect here and press Enter.
  6. Take out the Windows XP CD, type exit and then press Enter to restart your PC.
Assuming that a missing or corrupt boot.ini file was your only issue, Windows XP should now start normally.

SOURCE: Installing windows XP - Error encountered

Can you reboot and get into windows or is now corrupt?

What do you mean by 'uninstalled XP'??

You cant uninstall it unless you format the drive, in which case the recovery discs are now probably useless as they rely on a folder on the HDD called i386.

Recovery discs normally dont have the OS on them, they rely on the I386 folder to gather info about the computer and then restores it to the state when it was new.

If you can acess the system, reboot and go into the bios and change the boot sequence to CD, then insert the first recovery disc. then save the settings and the computer will reboot and start the recovery process again, this should clear up the error.

If it does not it will be because the i386 folder is missing in which case you can either explore the recovery discs for it or you will have to buy a copy of Windows XP.

You should get in touch with them as they must provide a disc or recovery parition which was bought when they bought that laptop.

If you have a Windows XP disk then you can normally install by going into BIOS and setting CD as first boot device. If it gives hard drive not found then you will need to install the SATA driver from the Toshiba website first.

New hard drive for my Toshiba Qosmio G15 R laptop

I believe with Toshiba they normally would give you a recovery disk and then a drivers and utilities disk as well. If you don't have both then I would suggest installing windows xp and then go to this page:http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=835452&rpn=PQG10U&modelFilter=G15-AV501&selCategory=3&selFamily=804517Click on the downloads button and from there choose your operating system and you can download the drivers from that page. You'll know which drivers you'll need by going into the device manager and seeing what has a yellow question mark next to it.If you need more help with this let me know and I'll help you more.

Qosmio g30

Qosmio uses bios setting to configure the raid type for the HDD set up. this is not dependant on have two HDDs in you laptop. When bootining the laptop enter the bios setup F2 (I think not on a toshiba right now) check and reset the raid configuration for the drives. I am asuming you are using the origional recovery disks for your qosmio. If not you need to aquire a usb floppydrive and the raid drivers for you laptop iin order to install windows of any kind on this laptop.

Sound drivers for Xp sp2

For specific models with different chipset drivers, you can get the sound driver & pretty much everything else on support.toshiba.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, "Tecra, Portege", & sometimes "Qosmio" models came with a built-in HDD recovery, meaning you need to create your recovery disk by running the "Recovery Disk Creator". An application to create your recovery disk. A shortcut is created on the desktop by default, if you cannot find it there, try looking at "C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator" & run the "exe" file, it should give you a menu to create one. After creating the disk, you can use that disc to install the drivers for all Toshiba pre-installed devices/softwares on that machine. For Satellite models, the disc should come with the laptop when you boughtt it. When you have the disc, just insert it inside of windows, it will give you options to install the driver & software for a specific toshiba device.

Hope this helps.

Recovery

Windows XP does have RAID drivers, but it really doesn't have anything to do with this problem. Try a bios flash with either updated bios version, if any, or the original bios. Your problem is much deeper that a hard drive or operating system. Your problem is in the motherboard, if the bios flash doesn't do it, then the motherboard may need to be replaced. Take it to a tech and have them run down the exact problem.

Error 437

Hi, I did a Google on your error 437 and it would seem that this problem pops up only if: 1. using SYMANTEC (Ghost); or 2. using Original Toshiba Restore Disc. where possibly: a. the restoration procedure needs to write a log file somewhere (A:?) which does not exist and therefore waits; b. the restore disc is probably corrupted; and/or c. the Ghost image is corrupted. A few things you can try: * On another computer, check the integrity of your recovery disc; * Get hold of another Windows installer and do a complete, clean, fresh install (you will have to use your original Win numbers @ the bottom of your laptop). You will only need the recovery disc for your hardware drivers; or * Call Toshiba Support and get assistance. I was made to understand that they provide replacement Recovery Disc (>50USD). Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
