I am trying to charge my "Simple Start" The directions say to Turn the unit On, Connect the 120 V Adapter, Plug the adapter in and push the Recharge Unit push button. The unit will beep once and flash green indicating the unit is charging....
My unit is beeping constantly and the flashing red.
Please help - I want this as an emergency backup for my 75 year old mother's car.
I recieved this as a Christmas gift last year. Over the summer my battery died, and this actually came in handy. Now I've got a friend whose car died a few days ago and needs a jump to get to Pep Boys, and I'm having the same spaztic blinking and beeping. It snowed out last night, and the unit was in my car, but it's been inside for some time now with no signs of any progression. I'm very disappointed.
First plug the charge adapter into an outlet, then plug into the unit. Push the power button to turn the unit on. Now, push the button for the light. The light should come on. At this point you hit the charge button and the green light should start blinking and there will no beeping. Then turn off the light. The green light should continue to blink and the unit will charge. This worked for me, hope it helps!
Here is what the Black & Decker website says
"If the unit starts to beep continuously, let it beep for about 1 minute, then turn the unit off and unplug the charger from the unit. Allow the unit to sit a full minute and then repeat the charging process.
If you still experience difficulties with the unit beeping after about ten attempts to charge, we recommend bringing the unit back to the retailer for an exchange, or taking the unit to the nearest factory-owned service center for assistance."
It didn't work for me though.

Exactly the same. Very frustrating. Is there no solution other than returning?
I left mine in the trunk of the car for a long time, and never did any maintenance charging. So, of course, the battery is deeply discharged. But, like so many people are reporting, it won't go into recharge mode. The green light just flashes and it beeps incessantly. I am going to leave it plugged in, and turned on, but not in 'recharge' mode for a few hours- will see if that helps. But judging from the reviews on here, it won't. Too bad mine is probably too old to return. :(
