Thus, due to PlayStation 3 won't play Blu-ray discs, you have to update to the last system software 1.50. ... Insert a Blu-ray DVD into PS3 and then head to Video tab in the home menu of PS3, rather than the Game tab. Select Blu-Ray and hit X to start the Blu-ray movie.

A few possible causes of the Blu-ray playback issue on PS3
1. Encryption key needs to be renewed.
2. The Blu-ray disc is region locked.

The problem is all in the settings. You probably have a 1080i television that cannot display in 1080p. To fix this go to the main menu and go to:

Settings:

Video Settings

Then Blu Ray Disc and make it turn the Display BD in 1080p 24hz or whatever. Once you do that, start the Blu Ray Disc again, and you should be able to watch it. This all happened because your tv doesn't display 1080p.

Hope this helps!

My ps3 plays games but will not play blu ray movie

You can try clear your movie data from the discs you\'ve played (according to Fox that\'s sometimes the culprit when a disc won\'t even load): restart your PS3 and go to the video menu and scroll up to the BluRay Data section. Go into it and check that it has saved some info for your movies. Now deleted all the data in this folder except the shared data crap, and hopefully your movies start perfectly!!

If that fails try the following:

In the XMB(menus) go to Settings ---> BD/DVD Settings ---> BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI). Turn that off. This has also been known to work.

Won't play a blue ray disc

The blueray eye is out. You will need a new blueray player. The only problem with that is the ps3 will only respond with the orginal parts it came with. ( i.e. motherboard blueray player ) So the best bet is to buy a broken blueray player and take the eye out and replace it with yours just the eye not the whole thing.

Have an aussie ps3 trying 2 play dvd and it says region code incorrect how do i fix this

The PS3s' DVD and Blu-Ray player is region locked. This means that your Australian PS3 can only play DVD and Blu-Ray movies made for the region Australia is in or are region free (region code 0).

For DVD's, Australia is region code 4.
For Blu-Ray, Australia is region code B or region code 2.

Although this doesn't help your current problem, the PS3 is region free for PS3 games (you can play games from any region).

To work around this, I propose either ripping the DVD to your computer, then burning it onto a different DVD or streaming the DVD directly from your computer to the PS3. Streaming is definitely the better bet if you have more DVD's from another region.

To rip and burn your own copy, use a blank DVD disc and DVD burning/ripping software such as Nero.

To stream to your PS3, check out the following:
PS3 Media Server (my personal favorite) for PC
TVersity for PC
MediaLink for Mac

Enjoy your movie (hopefully)!

PS3 BLU-RAY DVD PLAYER REGION FREE

This is because you bought the ps3 from america, it will not let you play anything you buy from europe, i had this problem when i was in germany too i had bought the ps3 in michigan and tried to play in germany and got the same exact error code. i just ordered all my games from amazon. but eventually bought a new ps3 from their region. i dont know why sony does this i personally think it is to stop illegal burning via the internet.

PS3 wont play blue ray or PS3 game discs

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

Ps3 plays video games, not bluray movies or dvds

I would start with a firmware update (2.60) and also a full system restore. That should fix the problem. Let me know. I'm a PS3 expert!

60gb ps3 wont play ps3 games

The issue is the laser (actually has different diodes for blu ray, ps2 format and regular DVD.
Seems like in your case the only one that is burnt is the blu ray.
Send it back to Sony for repairs or if you do not have warranty purchase a replacement lens and install it yourself.

Japanese 60gb ps3

PS2 games and DVD movies are still region encoded. Your Japanese PS3 will not play them.

It will play Blu-ray games from any region or and Region 1 blu-ray movie.
