I have a Whirlpool Stove, model SF367PEYQ3. When we turn the oven to 'BAKE', it takes 1-2 minutes to light. When it does light, it lights with a small explosion and we can smell gas. I took up the oven floor and flame spreader and the ignitor glowed bright orange. I turned it off before it light and while it was on, there was no gas smell nor was there any sparking. What should I replace to get the oven working safely again? (The broiler works fine.)

I just had the same problem! If I ever see that f9 again and hear that annoying constant beep....I will pick up and dispose of that oven on the front lawn. Lol. Took a pair of pliers and turned the lock clock wise till the light went out. Silence!

most likely you have a bad ignitor,pull out the racks and remove the floor to the stove,turn on the bake,if the ignitor glows but it takes more than 40 seconds for the flame to light you have a bad ignitor even though it glows and if it doesn't glow at all the ignitor is bad,also if the broil lights on top and the bake doesn't change out the ignitor.next time send the model number and i can look up your machine to help you better.

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve.If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when set to bake ignitor by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire,either one and not both.
if amp draw less than that replace bake ignitor. If you dont have amp meter take my word for it since in my 30 years appliance repair career i have seen when the ignitor comes on, that it's weak and found it to be the problem 100% of the time

Is the gas turned on to the stove? Is the pilot light lit?
Any special circumstances surrounding this incident? like this stove is new or old. Or you are new to gas stoves etc.

Sounds like you need an bake element ignitor if the bake doesn't work but if the broil also doesn't work, it could be the electronic clock/timer control. the part number for the bake ignitor is 8054129 .Best off to call a reliable service company such as Sears.

check the bake (lower) element, mine just went out. It was easy to spot the problem once I pulled the element out, the wire had burnt off the end. Please remember to turn the power off first.

Check to see if the electric ignitors are connected at the ignition module, located under the top surface panel. It is possible that the wire(s) that go to the oven ignitors has burned off or become disconnected from the main spark module,

It is also possible that the electrodes have failed and need to be replaced. These are the two (2) devices that produce the spark (and make the clicking sound) inside the oven compartment.

If those are OK, then check the thermostat, as it could be faulty and preventing the oven from functioning.

If you can smell gas when attempting to turn the oven (bake or broil) then the valves are good, if you don't smell any gas, the gas supply valves (one for each bake and broil tubes) need to be checked.

You might also try lighting the oven manually with a long match or grill lighter to rule out faulty gas supply valves or a faulty thermostat, which if you can manually light the oven, it would prove that the ignitors must have failed.

The solution to this problem depends on whether the oven is electric or gas. Electric oven. If your electric oven's bake or broil element isn't working properly, either it isn't receiving electric power or the element or the oven control may need to be replaced. In many cases, the wiring to the elements can be burnt or broken. 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Call an appliance repairperson or replace the element yourself as follows. 4) Unplug the oven and let any hot parts cool. 5) Unscrew the mounting screws that secure the element bracket to the oven and pull out the element far enough to access its terminals. Note which wires are attached to each of the terminals, then disconnect the wires (pull off the wire clips or unscrew the wires). 6) Take the element to a parts dealer, along with your oven's model and serial number, and buy a replacement (preferably the manufacturer's suggested replacement part). 7) Reverse the process to reinstall. Gas oven. When a gas oven doesn't get hot, it generally means that it isn't receiving gas, the gas valve isn't distributing gas to the oven burner, or the ignition system -- either an electronic ignition or pilot light -- isn't working properly. A common problem with ovens that have a pilot light is that the pilot light has gone out. NOTE: Gas ranges younger than 10 years old have a sophisticated fault code system that governs their ignition. Always call an approved warranty service provider to handle problems with these ranges. Here's how to troubleshoot your range: 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Check the gas valve to be sure the gas supply is turned on (also make sure the house's main gas valve is turned on). 4) On a stove with a pilot light, make sure the pilot light is burning. If it isn't, re-light as discussed HERE, or in your owner's manual. 5) Adjust the pilot flame (older stoves only). 6) Turn off the gas and unplug the stove (or turn off its circuit at the electrical panel). 7) Clean out the oven burner ports, using a stiff wire. 8) Plug in the stove (or turn on its circuit) and turn the gas back on.
