Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the modem's Ethernet output port and plug the other end into the router's single WAN/Internet input port.

SOURCE: Connecting Ipod touch 8(GB) to Wi-fi BEWARE SPAM NUMBER +1-800-532-4187 BELOW

After fighting with this for the last couple of hours I have my ipod touch working with the netgear DG834G(v3) router. The fix is a bit odd and I am not entirely sure why it works but I thought I would share and hopefully it might help you out …

First I think that the WEP encryption simply does not work between these two devices and causes some very strange behaviour – the WEP 'authentication type' setting I had on the 'wireless settings' page was set to 'shared key' – I flicked this to 'automatic' & strength to ‘128 bit’ - hit apply and finally I found I was able to connect without an error message (after inputting the correct WEP key). Unfortunately the DHCP did not work correctly after this and I kept receiving IP addresses in the range of 169.254.x.x (an internal default) rather than my networks expected 192.168.0.x range. The Ipod touch couldn’t find any DNS servers or connect to the internet.

To get round this I set the router ‘security options’ to use WPA instead (WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)) instead of WEP. Set the new WPA password at the bottom of the wireless settings page - again hit apply - and configured the ipod to use the new password and WPA PSK instead of WEP. This worked fine – although it does mean I have to change the settings on all my other wireless devices around the house!

The weird thing is that although the router isn’t using WEP encryption changing the 'authentication type' setting back to ‘shared key’ in the WEP menu breaks the WPA connection again – very odd? I blame netgear and their obviously crazy wep code :)

SOURCE: Internet connection dies when phone rings

There are a number of tests you can perform to find the problem unhook all the phones in your house and then call to see if it still does it. If it doesnt it may be one of your phones. If it does check the wiring in the jacks and make sure the wires are not backwards in any of them. If they all appear to be fine there maybe a problem at the pole or box whichever the company has installed in your neighborhood. Once you have determined that none of the above is present its not your fault and the providing internet company should not charge you to come out and check the outside lines. It can be as simple as a little short in the wire especially if its underground.

You may also wanna locate the phone box on the outside of your home and see if it disconnects when connected to there.

The box Outside Should Look Like This
92add24.jpg

And You'll Need To Disconnect All Of The Lines From These Plugs And Then Plug Your Internet Directly Into One Of Them. This Will Disconnect All The Phone Lines In The House. Now Place A Call To Your Home Via Cell Phone Or Have A Friend Call And If It Doesn't Disconnect Your Internet The Problem Is In The House.
If It Still Does Its The Phone Company's Problem And You'll Need To Call Them To Fix The Problem.

If This Does Not %100 Solve Your Problem Let me Know And I Will Continue Further Trouble Shooting With You.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

SOURCE: Can't connect Netgear router with ATT DSL

After you hook everything up the first thing you want to do is power cycle everything. So unplug the power cord on the router and the modem, Then plug the modem back in first and once the lights all come back on then plug in your router and once those lights come up i would reboot your PC and see it that helps.

SOURCE: Netgear wgr61 Wireless Router

you can also check the settings of your wifi security. I would suggest you use WEP or WPA-TKIP (personal). You can also try considering this options below;

Getting an intermittent wireless connection can be attributed to the following factors:

a. 2.4 GHz wireless interference
b. Wireless settings of your router
c. Location of the devices
d. Obstacles

You may also refer to the common causes of interference:

Window in brick wall 2dB
Metal frame, glass wall into building 6dB
Office wall 6dB
Metal door in office wall 6dB
Cinder wall 4dB
Metal door in brick wall 12.4dB
Brick wall next to metal door 3dB

In order for us to isolate the problem, please refer to the steps below:

1. Avoid obstacles.

a. Try to move the router to different locations in order to get better connectivity. We suggest placing the router on high location to avoid obstacles that may be blocking the signal.

2. Reduce wireless interference in the area.

a. Try to move the router away from devices that are operating on 2.4 GHz frequency like your cordless phones and microwave ovens.
b. Try to move the router away from windows. Windows let in interference from the outside world.

3. Adjust the wireless settings on the router.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. For security reasons, the router has its own username and password. When prompted, enter admin for the Username and password for the Password, both in lower case letters.

Note: If it doesn't take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you can't remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

d. Click on Wireless Settings under Setup tab.
e. Change the Network name or SSID to your preference.
f. Change the Mode to g and b only.
g. Change the Channel to 11, 1, 6 or 9.
h. Click on the Apply button.
i. Reconnect your computer to the wireless network and see if it fixes the problem.

Note: If the problem persists, you may need to upgrade the firmware of the router.

4. Upgrade the firmware.

a. Please verify the router version and model either underneath or at its side panel.
b. Go to http://kbserver.NETGEAR.com/downloads_support.asp and please select the model of the router.
c. Click the appropriate version of the router.
d. Select the link of the latest firmware. Click the button Right-click and Save to Download. Save the file to the Desktop.

Note: Please perform firmware upgrade with wired or Ethernet connection only. If your computer has wireless connection, then please disable it first.

e. Before upgrading, please write down all current settings since you need to enter them manually.
f. Using the computer hardwired on the router, please access the router’s setup page again by going to http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm
g. Click on Maintenance and then Router Upgrade.
h. Click on Browse and locate the upgraded file in your Desktop. Then click on Upload.
i. Please wait for the router to reboot.

5. After a successful firmware upgrade, you need to reset the router.

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Note: Resetting the router will erase all the settings so it needs to be reconfigured afterwards.

The router can be reconfigured using the setup CD or by manual configuration.

How to install to att 2wire 2701hgb modem router

Plug power cord into back of modem and then into an electrical outlet. At this point you should see the lights on the front of the modem beginning to come on.

Check the front of the modem for a solid green DSL light. If the light is still blinking, allow a few more moments before proceeding to step 5. A blinking DSL light indicates a break in the network and will require the help of your service provider if it does not turn solid green.

Open your internet browser and type the default gateway into address bar. The default gateway will be provided by your service provider. Newer model 2Wire modems automatically direct you to the installation instructions when the browser is opened.

Click on "Run System Setup Wizard" in the lower right-hand corner. It may require the system password. This password will be provided by your service provider.

Select your timezone and click 'Next.'

Enter your ISP provided login information and click 'Next'. This should authenticate your credentials on the network and complete the installation.

CAN A 2WIRE DSL ROUTER WORK WITH A CABLE INTERNET CONEECTION

The 2wire dsl modem/router cannot be use with a another cable modem , since this 2wire device is also a modem/router and its made for the DSL conenction that's why it wont work with Cox cable, the best thing that you can do is to ask Cox to give a wireless modem/router like this 2wire so you can still use the wireless connection of your computer..

Hope that helps..........
