It does sound like your control key is stuck in the "down" position. Does wiggling the key to see if it comes free help?

In addition, it also may be that your num lock is on, which would explain why you're only getting numbers.
also, maybe try poppin out the batteries for a little and or put new ones in?

Certain letter keys give me numbers instead of the letter on my verbatim wireless keyboard and mouse

Sounds like NUMlock, or another function key like that. Are those numbers on the keys themselves? That's a common problem for laptop keyboards that do not have number pads.

have you tried replacing the batteries in your Wireless keyboard? it could be that simple as the wireless may be dieing if there is not enough power to send the information of what your typing.. Try this before you change your configurations in Windows.

Hope this helps,

Try resetting the board unplug the usb plug to the wireless device then turn the keyboard over and press the small button on the back of the key board with a paper clip or ink pen, then the light on the device will light up next do the same thing to the mouse some have numbers of the wireless device like 123 others have letters on them like mine A 1 F let me know if you need help.

Wireless keyboard will not type numbers. Only the corresponding symbols will show up. The shift key is not down nor is it stuck down.

Although Shift key is not pressed down, maybe the electronics are messed up due to shock if you dropped the keyboard. Turn off Caps Lock, go to text editor of your choice and try to type numbers together with some letters. If you get big letters, then Shift button is pressed down.

In both cases, just to make sure, try your keyboard on some other computer and see if it works.

If you find out that Shift button is always pressed, than it is a hardware problem that may or may not be fixable.

Microsoft wireless keyboard 3000

Once I take the keyboard apart, and brush off the 3 plastic layers underneath the keyboard, it works fine.
There are 14 screws on the back that you need to remove, a couple of them are hidden underneath warning / instruction stickers so you have to feel for them and cut the stickers off with a knife.
