Scrambled Screen in Record Mode

Intermittently, and now more frequently, when I turn on the camera to 'record' mode the viewfinder will only show purple lines flickering across horizontally. It will also suddenly show the scene perfectly for a while then change back to horizontal lines. If I press the shutter button I will get a photo of those flickering purple/green lines . Some photos have come out with only a few lines thru a photo, others are almost black. The problem occurs and ceases suddenly and without anything else going on at the time. I have taken 100 photos between episodes, then back to the fault. The viewfinder plays photos back ok, including the faulty ones. I can never know when I will get a good run or miss out on a series of shots completely, or get a few lucky shots between faulty ones. I have tried different batteries. It is only in Record. I have removed and replaced the XD card. Do I buy a new Fuji camera or a camera of another brand. (It also fails to hold date/time information between battery changes - I suffer that!) Thanks

I have arrived at this web page as I have the same problem with my S5000. I have since seen on various websites from 2005 that there has been a fault with many of the CCDs made by Sony. Fujifilm use Sony CCDs and this problem may apply to those CCDs manufactured between Oct 2002 and Mar 2004, which could have been used in cameras for retail sale as late as mid-2005.(see http://news.digitaltrends.com/news/story/8651/faulty_sony_ccds_fail_in_dozens_of_cameras My particular camera was bought in 2004 so this might make sense. The S5000 isn't a model specifically listed but it does say that the list probably isn't exhaustive.

First step -try pressing gently the casine from all angles around the screen- this may simply be a loose connector problem that rights itself. Do Not Try Taking it apart at this stage Second Step Fuji Technical Support. They may have a recall or replacement situation depend on the age and model of camera. Third Step Camera Store- for the new one- A repair situation will not be an economic proposition- assuming parts availability- often there are none

My canon gl2 lcd screen and viewfinder black

Same thing happened to me. No display, no menu, no S-video output while in camera mode, but in VCR mode all was OK. Turning power off and on did not help until I also disconnected the AC power adapter. BTW, Mr. Riggins did not read the question before he answered.

Viewfinder and LCD screen only show black and record black

If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.
Let me know your finding with bit detail to provide you solution/ helpful info.

Shooting mode shows nothing.

Hello,

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVL107E

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.
