1st off check to see if spark is present. If not, try to disconnect the wires behind where the key is. Check spark again..if now u have spark its a key issue..if not still...get to the coil and disconnect the black ground wire and check spark again. Nooow if no spark youe coil is bad..coils rarely fail in my exp but does happen.

Also..what is giving u the impression it has no spark? Before you try anything else get a spray can of either (starting fluid) and spray (usually in an akward spot or angle to spray) it into the carburetor directly (usually right behind choke knob) & then immediately try to start it then. If it starts for even a half a second your spark is fine and most likely your carburetor jets are clogged and carb needs a cleaning. If ur unsure or not comfortable messing w carb call a pro to do it..it will save time and aggravation.

Unplug the switch to make sure it isnt just stuck in off position *(internally stuck while the switch will still move) If it starts you can unstick the switch with some WD and a couple back and forths with the key.

If you still have no spark you are gonna need a new coil.

There may be a cracked fuel line, cracked primer bulb, loose carburator, dirt/trash in the carb....it sounds like a fuel supply problem. Hard to tell with out hands on.

SOURCE: Its starts but will cut off

The problem you are having is due to dirt and gunk in the carbeurator. Spray a carbeurator cleaner into the air chamber [remove the air filter] and run it a couple of times then let it sit for two hours while the carbeurator cleaner does its job of dissolving any debris. Then start it up. IF this does it, great, if not repeat the cleaning technique.

If all of this doesn't do it, then the carbeurator will have to be removed and either replaced or rebuilt.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a Troy Bilt 2410 SnowBlower that

If memory serves me your unit is a 4-stroke and the motor is very well hidden by covers. There probably is not a fuel shut off valve on that unit from the factory, and there is no drain plug on the tank. To drain the tank, pinch the fuel line off between the tank and carb with some kind of locking pliers/ vice grips, then remove the fuel ilne from the carb and place that end of the line in a container and remove the pliers to let the fuel flow. Also, spray a prime directly into the throat of the carb with the choke open. Snow throwers do not have air filters since the only thing they would catch is water ( theoretically).
You should be able to spray the prime to diagnose without too much hassle but to perform any service on the unit you will have to remove all covers and gaurds. Take your time the first time and its not as bad as it looks, after the first time its a breeeze. Some units have a little 90 degree extension coming off the muffler that prevents the removal of one of the covers, with the right sized 1/4 drive socket on an extension you can reach up and loosen the pinch bolt and remove the extension which makes the job a whole lot easier.
Good luck, hope that helped

SOURCE: My troy-bilt 8.5 horse 26 inch wide snowblower wont move anymore.

Take the belt cover off that covers the drive pulley on the engine. You should only have to loosen two bolts. Inspect the belt to see what it looks like. I am not sure if it drives a gear box or if it turns a friction wheel that drives the wheels. If the belt looks good check for shear bolts that might have sheared off and replace them.

Troy-bilt snowblower - changed the spark plug and now black smoke is coming from the area of the new plug. Any ideas of what might be causing this?

Erin, it sounds like the plug was fouled. the black smoke usually is a sign of to much fuel or burning rich. and the smoke coming from the plug is a sign of cross threaded plug or possible head gasket. take the plug out and see if it has gas on it or wet looking. if it does clean the plug real good and try to start it with the spark plug out. if gas squirts out of the spark plug hole you have a carburetor problem that is an easy fix. put the clean dry plug back in and see how it runs now.

Check to see you are getting spark at the spark plug. Take the plug out and put the plug wire on it and ground the the nut on the spark plug to the engine block and crank the engine and see if you get spark at the plug. If so then your carburetor has to be taken apart and cleaned.

Hello,

You need to remove the carburetor float bowl and clean it. The needle and seat also need to be cleaned. The best thing is to totaly remove the carb. and soak it in a commercial/professional strength cleaner.

Your problem is fuel related, but just to make sure, remove the spark plug and spray some carburetor cleaner in the hole, replace the plug and give it a pull. If it fires up then quits..... The fuel system is to blame.

Hope this helps, Matt

I share your frustration. We just had our first snow fall of the season and my Troy Bilt Squall 2100 would not start or do anything. The snow blower is well maintained and does not have 2 hours use. I use 0-30 synthetic oil and installed fresh gasoline. It is simply maddening to have plunked down close to $500.00 and have a useless snow blower. Trying to get through to Troy Bilt's help line is next to impossible.

Coil bad or wire to coil bad. I tell everyone what Ill tell you, when it comes to small engines, troy bilt, poulan, weedeater brand all JUNK,JUNK JUNK! Theyre made cheap, not built to last, theyre throwaways. Carbs are made in china. If youre ever in walmart next time go back to the garden section and pick up a weedeater or poulan brand chainsaw or trimmer. Look at the package good and look at the factory life expactancy. Its not in months, not even days, but in hours. If I was you I would tell myself NO MORE! I would buy a dolmar or stihl, pay the extray, cause you wont be aggrevated in the long run. P.S. Dolmar offers a 100% coverage for ONE YEAR on all equipement.
