Accessory Gear Stuck on KitchenAid Artisan

My KitchenAid Artisan was having some serious troubles for the past few weeks. Overheating to the point where I had to put an ice pack on it to finish a batch of marshmallows because it was getting disconcertingly hot. I opened it up and found that the accessory drive gear attachment hub (quite the mouthful!) part #9705130 required a lot of force to turn. All the other gears seem in perfectly good condition. I decided to take out the gear and consider replacement after a good inspection, but I can't get it out. As far as I can tell based on the schematics and looking closely at it, there is no retaining clip or pin or anything holding it in place. But after prying with a screwdriver, and then using a light hammer and a punch when that failed, I have only managed to move it about 3/16 inch. Does anyone know how to take out this gear? I am about to take a clamp and an engineers hammer and knock it out of there, but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to damage anything first.

Turns out you can just tap this part out with a hammer. If it's not stuck like mine. I tapped mine out, and it came out with a piece of the sleeve that it should comfortably fit inside still attached to the gear. I guess it was VERY siezed up. Unfortunately, this KA mixer might be sold for parts. Not sure I want to bother fixing it.

The fix for that is a new gear and replacement housing (the whole painted top part) The bush is unfortunately not available as a spare part.

There should be screws to tighten. Or maybe the pin holding the gearhead on is missing, tho that is unlikely.

SOURCE: paddle beater won't push up and turn to release

When you are able to remove the paddle, feel the opposite side of the spindle. It should be smooth. The pin should not stick out the back at all. Carefully, tap it in until it is even with the spindle. That will fix you up, unless the pin itself is also damaged. If so, get a small file and remove any burrs from where the paddle mounts.

SOURCE: The planetary mechanism (gear, plate, etc) on my

It appears that retaining ring (7) has snapped. It is the retaining ring which attaches to the drive shaft. Here is the parts diagram:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10157992.pdf

From it you can see how to remove the case cover and access the gear train. You may have to replace the shaft if its groove is worn allowing the retaining ring to slip off.

KitchenAid Artisan mixer accessory port not turning

You probably just need a new Shear Pin. This is just a small steel pin like a nail that goes through the gear and the drive shaft. If the strain on the final drive exceeds specs, the pin shears through and thereby saves damage to the gears and motor.

This is one of the Shear Pins. They just call it 'pin, retaining'.

Artisan mixer quit rotating. I took it apart and the hub bevel gear was frozen in the case. I beat it out but the bearing surface is pretty deeply scarred. I am wondering if I can sand the shaft enough...

You can certainly continue to use it without the accessory drive gear. Repair without replacing the gear and housing (the proper way) will leave you with a less than optimal accessory drive but if you don't overwork it it could last. Clean it out and polish the bearing surface on the gear up a but then get some good grease into the grooves on bush & bearing and bang it back together. You don't have a lot to lose.

Squeak while mixing.

That sounds like the accessory drive is binding in the bush in the front housing. Don't use it and think seriously about getting it to a Kitchen Aid service agent. No good will come of forcing the issue. If you never use any accessories in that front drive you could consider asking them to remove the gear and put it back together again without it. If you force it to continue eventually the fuse gear will fail and you could even wreck the gear that drives the planetary. The accessory gear will need to be replaced and if the bush is damaged enough the top housing will need to be replaced as the bush is not available separately.

My kitchenaid artisan mixer doesnt run fast enough

It may be seizing up the bush that your accessory drive runs in, if you can see grindings in the front by the square drive that is a sign. Here in NZ that bush is only available as part of that whole top cover/housing. The accessory drive gear will also need to be replaced.

Kitchenaid Artisan Stand Mixer has stuck hub bevel gear (KSM150PS)

The bevel gear sits above the worm-follower gear. I think you mean the drive attachment gear.

I think I have the same, or similar problem. I ground a piece of meat that stopped it from working. The drive-attachment-gear turns if I push it in, but then it pops out. I am still trying to figure out what part is causing the issue - the drive attachment gear, or maybe even the worm follower gear.

Oil spilled during shipping

This kind of unit are lubricated with grase paste. If the unit stays inactive for a long time, or if the motor and gears are overheating the grease paste gets melted into thin oil, and that will cause the leak.
The oil leak is usually coming from the gear box inside the appliance.
To fix the problem the unit must be taken apart, and cleaned. After this step, there is need to spread again the grease, using special foodsafe grease paste.
Disassemblying the gear box is not that easy, you will need previous experience and a gear puller to do the job properly and safely.
This appliances are also held with security screws to prevent the users from taking apart the unit, and can only be disassembled using a Security screwdriver tip.

The grease can be purchased here, check at the bottom of the page: Kenwood chef food mixer Grease.

KitchenAid Artisan 10 speed 325Watt Mixer

Hi, The KitchenAid mixers are usually quite easy to work on if you are competent at DIY. It sounds like a gearbox fault. Gearbox parts are easy obtained for most of the models and are easy to repair.

This is a service manual for a lot of the KitchenAid mixers. Might give you an idea on how difficult it is to work on before taking the plunge.

Hope this helps
