SOURCE: kirby diamond edition - shampooer

1. Raise the vacuum head all of the way up. 2. Remove the vacuum head by removing the belt and releasing it. 3. Place the shampooer head on the vacuum by securing the clamp and them put the belt on 4. Take the bag off of the vacuum by twisting at the base just slightly outward and lifting upwards and unclamp it from the handle 5. Put water and cleaner into the water resevoir. 6. Put the reservoir on to the kirby where the bag was by holding it parallel to the vacuum then using both hands, twist it outward slowly until it goes down onto the unit then twist back to parallel position. 7. Put the coil looking piece on the shampooer head on top where the hole is...it will only fit one way successfully. 8. Put the other end on the under side of the water reservoir. 9. Lower the shampooer head all of the way down on the carpet just like you would the vacuum head 10. Turn on the vacuum and reach down and turn the knob at the top of the reservoir, this will begin putting cleaner (tons of foam) onto the carpet. Just work in 3' x 3' sections, turning off the foam intermitently until you are finished. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Kirby Heritage 2 fan replacement

Take the bag asm. and handle off. Then remove the plastic strip covering the switch, remove the screw there, remove the 3 screws on the housing, turn it over and loosen the screw near the back, the housing should come off. Then remove the screws on the back of the fan casing. You shouild be able to get to the fan, hold the fan and turn the spindle to the right to take off. If it would turn off, then you may have to lock the armature so it can't turn to move it. Then re-asemble in reverse.

Kirby Heritage 84

I can't figure out how to get the belt engaged on my Kirby Heritage 84. There are very simple instructions on the front assembly; however, the belt doesn't engage with the rotor, and the beater bar does not spin. When I have the front twisting section on the "Belt On" setting, it seems as though it actually disengages the belt. I see no faults in any of the mechanical parts, but just can't get the belt to go on the rotor.
(I purchased this machine @ a garage sale on Saturday. It's in perfect condition.)
My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby 84 Legend.
Help! Jennifer

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You can always check your owner’s manual but the Kirby has a dial on the front of the machine and you needs to dial the belt off of the fan pulley counter clock wise and to check to see if the Kirby bell housing will release @ the top so that you can remove the bell housing. If not then remove the bottom plate and take out the brushroll on one side and then slide the belt off of the brushroll. Then you can slide the new belt onto the brushroll to the center and then re-insert the Kirby brushroll with the screw heads facing downward then you can replace the bottom plate – then use the Kirby spoon or hook to dial the belt onto the fan pulley clock wise. Once that is done then plug in the Kirby and try to vacuum to see if the Kirby is picking up properly, if not repeat the process. If you have a question, feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I can't get the screws out to replace the belt on my carpt shampooer...

No screws need to be taken out on a Kirby for a belt change. Take the nozzle off, remove the base plate with the 2 twist locks, pull the brushroll out. Puton the new belt, and re-assemble. Twist the belt lifter around the belt, replace the nozzle, spin the belt lifter back, and go vacuum

As long as it is Kirby belt - you should be fine. Make sure that the shaft is clean and that you do not vacuum something greasy or wet (grease or oil will lubricate the belt and shaft will loose the grip -heat up and burn). Make sure that brush roll spins freely.
I am assuming you know how to put the nozzle on properly (if you not sure - go here)

Good Luck

Kirby shampooer

You are missing the wee round suds screen that fits over the small hole on the tank where the hose fits on. Without this screen it will not make foam.
