Broken door latch on Model 63679 Kenmore Elite Microwave.

Ordered new latch spring assembly but cannot see how to take door assembly apart to replace. Please help with directions on how to do.

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can find helpful exploded views by entering your full Kenmore model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

Please be aware that you may have a broken spring mounting tab on the inner door panel.

In such cases, the best way to fix that is to drill a hole in the remaining material, insert the spring, then add a dab of epoxy where they spring attaches to the panel.

How to install latch and spring in microwave door

You need to know where the 'catches' are inside the choke cover on the door to remove it carefully without breaking anything or marring the cover. You might get inside and find that the post for mounting the return spring has broken and that is part of the outer door panel.

The latch on kenmore micro #721-62622200 is broken at bottom

In order to have the correct operation of the door latch mechanism and latch switches.

Ensure correct adjustment of the Door and the Latch switches.
Wipe off any dirt or grease around the door key where it touches the latch switched and door hooks with a soft cloth. Maintaining the smooth movement of the latch mechanism and switches etc�
After replacement of the latch mechanism and/or Latch switches. Make sure to confirm a smooth operation of these parts are in order.

Kenmore Mod. 721.80524500 microwave door will not lock.

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

The door latch head (hook) is pretty easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

If you gently push up on the door latches (hook-like devices on the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off.
