Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+ Logo
Posted on Jan 17, 2009

My pad, when I put in pass code #, will not open my garage door from the outside.

I thought the batteries were bad so I changed them out-no difference. Went to 'reprogram' my pad and it won't let me. I have my pass code # that we always punch in but I need my 'password' and both my husband and I cannot remember it. It's been a looooong time since we purchased our LiftMaster and we've not needed the password. Only the pass code # to get into the garage. I've looked everywhere for the manual or some place where we may have written down a 'password'. Can the pad be reprogramed or are we screwed??!! Thanks-

Help!! in Washington State Same problem with wireless keypad. Was out of town, electricity went off, when I returned the password no longer worked. Tried to reprogram, but it wacks out (light blinks like crazy). Just purchased home 4 months ago, don't know any other password. I don't see any model numbers anywhere. Only number is on directions inside cover. 132B2171-2. Garage Door Opener is Lift-Master, the Professional Line, 1/2 HP, Security+. Installed 6/98.

Could you let me know whether or not you have lights on your overhead motor? If you do, then it is the same as mine and I believe that I can help fix it. Thanks. I'm here to help.

We have a Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener with wireless keypad. Recently, the keypad has stopped working. I replaced the battery, but it still did not resolve the problem. I do not see a light and the keypad does not seem to be responding. Any ideas how I should troubleshoot this issue?

I have a do it best garage door opener, but the outside pad quit working. We put in a new battery.Got a new car and set it in the car to work, did this foul it up?

Hi Janice:
I have to ask the obvious question.
Is there any chance that the code got changed?
I'd try resetting the keypad code just in case.

The key pad on the outside of not responding when put in code

If you have replaced the battery and everything else is working then the keypad has most likely quit. Replace it with one of the same model.

Garage door keeps opening automatically after code change

Changing the code on your keypad wouldn't cause this problem. It is most likely a bad wall control or the wiring going to it. You can eliminate both possibilities by removing the wire from terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit. I would do that for a night or two just to see. You can then go further to eliminate the wiring or the wall control. If you replace the wire on terminal #1 and then remove the wires from the back of the wall control you will see if it is the wiring. The staples used during installation sometimes cuts through the insulation and cause this problem. The wall control just goes bad.

Outdoor keypad frequently doesnt work

IF REPLACING THE BATTERY DOESN'T DO IT YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE KEYPAD.

NOTE: (IF YOU HAVE A ROLLING CODE SYSTEM) YOU WILL NEED TO REPROGRAM THE UNIT AFTER YOU CHANGE THE BATTERY.

HOPE THIS IS HELPFULL

Battery does not last

Anytime a door opens and/or closes randomly or doesn’t work consistently I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote signal.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation / interference stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

HOPE THIS HELPS
