Oh mine totally did this too but some guy on a site like this told me how to fix it. i dont remember perfectly but it was something like this. you have to update the device so frist get it ready to update it then while it updates u have to hold your player wiht the slider in the downmost position like u are going to turn it on and then when it will say updating complete and u can let go and hopefully it works. if not keep looking on the internet cuz the guy wiht the answer wrote it somewhere!

good luck

here i found what the guy wrote!

i have one of these been tampering with it for a couple months
    just tried something...
HOLD the power key and plug the usb at the same time DONT RELEASE THE POWER KEY
be sure that the firmware programm is running before
after 30 second the programm has found the player hit START to flash the firmware DONT RELEASE THE POWER KEY
Aflter flash is done release power key unplug USB and power the unit on VOILA! a working MC5102 or 5104 a bit tricky but doable!!!

Well it might be possible to download the software from the RCA website and if the player came with any restore options on its disc or anything use that, it will restore all factory settings but most likely WILL Delete all your songs if you have any on. Try this first, If you do not have any of these things, if you have a PC you can right click on the device in "My Computer" and click format, don't do the "Quick format" Get a thorough one done, and if you have the disc reload all its info on it and reapply all its setting using the disc, if not there should be a RCA hardware file you can download using Google to find it, try that, try updating it. Don't format unless you have the files or resets. But if nothing works try contacting RCA and if not it might be a goner at this point, Don't give up try resetting it, doing all the settings resets, but don't format until you can find some sort of reinstallation software for the mp3 player not for the updating songs on your PC. If its a mac you should be able to format using the same type of method if you just click on the Icon on your desktop but you must for both PC and Mac have Administrative privelages. Good luck! :)

Key lock shut down

On the back of the player there is a button to the right. Above the button it says Off and below it there is a picture of a key. Switch the button upwards to turn the lock thing off.

"Boot Error, Sutting Down"

You may have let a magnet get near the mp3 player. Go to "My Computer" Then double click on the Mp3 player. You will see "Internal Storage" Icon. Right click it and click format. You will lose all data on the device. Also upgrading to 3.003 does not fix the Boot error problem.

Hey

It is easier to reformat the mp3 player. When the mp3 is plugged in to the PC, go to my computer, the double click the mp3 player there. You will see internal storage, right click that and click format. You will lose all the stuff on the mp3 player.

My Rca Lyra Mp3 keeps shutting down by itself and what must i download to make it compadible with windows vista

Try updating the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/)
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the USB port, then update the firmware.
