SOURCE: PS3 dont work

Go through setup on your PS3 with a normal AV cable and un-check the higher resolution boxes (1080p and down) one at a time, unless you know specifically what resolutions your television supports. After un-checking, plug in the HDMI cable and see if it fixes it. Basically, you need to set the PS3 to a supported format for your television.

SOURCE: PS3 (Pal) won't connect to Sylvania HD TV

I just figured it out last night - if you have used your playstation on an hd tv previously, it is set at the highest resolution possible - 1080p. You need to take it back to that tv, and go to display settings on your tv. If you select HDMI as they type of connection you'd like to make, it asks you what resolution your tv supports. In your tv instruction guide, it should give you this information. Check mark all of the resolutions your tv supports, making sure not to confuse 1080i and 1080p. After doing this you can take it back to your other television and it should work.

Well everytime we hook up the HDMI for the playstation 3 to the tv it says invalid format how do i fix this

You must make sure your playstation and your TV set are both set for the same video format (1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc.).

You can either go through all your HDTV formats until it synchs up (give each a good 20 seconds or so before moving on), or you can open the display menu for your PS/3 using a different video connection to your set (i.e. composite), setting both to match, then switching them to HDMI.

Your Playstation is in HDMI output mode. Go to settings and then vidio settings, then try to set the BD/DVD Video Output Format to automatic.

There may be a number of issues that contribute to your game not loading, or freezing up when trying to play. Please try the following:

1. Confirm the disc is clean. To clean a disc, use lint-free cleaning cloths made specifically for cleaning CD/DVD discs, sold at computer software stores. When cleaning the disc, we recommend starting from the innermost circle, and wiping out to the edge in a straight line.

We do not recommend wiping in a circular motion, as it may create more scratches on the disc.

**Note: Other materials, such as a paper towel or a T-shirt, may also scratch the disc. If there are any scratches, smudges, or fingerprints on the disc, it may not function properly. Also, do not use or insert any CD/DVD drive cleaners into the Playstation 3 as doing so may cause damage to the system.

2. Confirm that you have updated the Playstation 3 computer entertainment system with the most recent system software . You can check the version you have installed on your Playstation 3 by selecting:

* Settings.
* Then System Settings.
* Then System Information.

3. Some Playstation or Playstation 2 format software titles may perform differently on the PS3 system. To identify the compatibility status1 of a specific title, please use the Backward Compatibility Status Search provided by Sony.
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

4. Try playing different CDs, DVDs, and games on the Playstation 3 console to see if the problem exists across multiple discs. Also try playing the disc on a different Playstation 3 console.

5. Confirm that you are not using any game modification devices. Unlicensed devices such as game modification devices can interfere with the proper function of the software. We do not recommend the use of any game modification devices or unlicensed products.

Turn off the BD 1080p 24Hz Output(HDMI) option. If the Blu-ray DiscTM does not support 1080p 24Hz video mode, the video output may not display properly. Go to [BD 1080p 24Hz Output(HDMI)] under [Settings] > [BD/DVD Settings] and select "Off".

6. Confirm that the disc you want to play is supported by the PS3 system.

The PS3 system will support the following media formats*:
Media Formats Supported on the Playstation 3 console

PLAYSTATION®3 format software with either region [1] or [ALL] a
Playstation 2 format software (NTSC U/C standard) - (Not supported on the 40GB model)
Playstation format software (NTSC U/C standard)
Audio CDs, CD-R/-RW, Super Audio CDs b, c
DVD Video with either region [1] or [ALL] a
DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW a, c
Blu-ray DiscTM (BD) containing video content with region code [A] e
BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE c, d, e

a - When outputting DVD content or Playstation 3 format software in SD resolution, only discs recorded in the NTSC standard can be played.
b - Multi-channel Super Audio CD playback requires a multi-channel audio receiver with HDMI input.
c - Playback only.
d - Playback of BD-RE ver 1.0 discs is not supported.
e - Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only be output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard.

* The 40GB Playstation 3 model does not support SACD.

Hello,

Adjust the system's audio output settings. These settings are mainly used when the system is connected to audio devices that support digital audio output, such as AV amplifiers (receivers) for home entertainment systems.
1.
Confirm the formats supported by your audio device.
Settings vary depending on supported formats. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the audio device.
2.
Select in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) under in_setting.gif (Settings) in the home menu.
3.
Select [Audio Output Settings].
4.
Select the input connector on the audio device. Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use.

Select audio output formats.
Select all output formats that are supported by the audio device in use. If [Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI] is selected in step 4, the screen for selecting audio output formats will not be displayed. If [HDMI] is selected, you can also select to automatically set the audio output format. (In this case, the HDMI device must be turned on.)
soundoutput003.jpg 6.
Check your settings.
You can go back to the previous screen and revise the settings by pressing the in_left_key.gif button.
soundoutput002.jpg 7.
Save your settings.
The audio output settings are saved on the system.
Hints
  • [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio is set to be output from all output connectors by default. If you change the audio output settings, audio will be output only from the connectors that were set.
  • If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI], or select in_setting.gif (Settings) > in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) > [Audio Multi-Output] and set the option to [On].
  • If you select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] in step 5, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices.
  • When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings].
  • If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.

Hope it helped.

Cant tune ps3 to lg tv

Be sure you have the HDMI cable in the correct slot for the input channel you are trying to connect. Try another input channel like HDMI 2, 3, or 4 depending on how many channels you have. If you have another TV with HDMI, try plugging it in the other one to see if it is a problem with your TV or the PS3.

Ps3 doesnt connect to my computer monitor, how can i make it work?

Hey daashman,

According to information provided by the manufacturer, this particular Samsung model supports both VGA and DVI-type cable connections. The Playstation 3 however, does not currently support cables of either of these formats.

The good news is that there are ways around these limitations, typically in the form of a cable adaptor. Most models of the Playstation 3 should have an option for owners to use an HDMI cable to connect their TV or monitor, and many major electronic retailers often sell HDMI to DVI adaptors or adaptor cables of varying lengths.

If you're not quite sure what to look for, I would suggest checking out an online search engine for "HDMI to DVI adaptors." This should pull up a number of links that can provide you with not only detailed pictures, but also average pricing of the products available to you as well.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

PS3 no longer communicating with TV

All: Try this -

P
erform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.
  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the [HDMI OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor). [If resetting does not auto-detect your HDTV, see next step below.]
NOTE: As of system software update version 1.60, the PLAYSTATION 3can automatically detect an HDMI connection to a TV. If the PLAYSTATION 3 is turned on with an HDMI cable connected, the screen for switching video output settings will be displayed automatically. (Does not function unless the TV that is connected by the HDMI cable is turned on.)

As of version 1.80 of the system update for the PLAYSTATION 3, the PLAYSTATION 3 can upscale the video content of PlayStation® format software, PlayStation®2 format software, and DVDs to HD resolution.

If Resetting the Video Output Setting Did NOT Detect Your HDTV Automatically (Certain TV's Only)
With certain televisions, the PLAYSTATION 3 may not automatically detect the HDMI source (TV) which it is plugged into, even after resetting the Video Output Setting (as described above).

If resetting the Video Output Setting did not work, you may need to follow these steps to manually locate the HDMI source:

1. Connect both the AV Cable and the HDMI cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 to the corresponding (AV and HDMI) ports on your TV. 2. Proceed with resetting the Video Output Setting on the PLAYSTATION 3 again. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 3 below.)
3. Turn the TV channel to the corresponding "Input" or "Video" channel for the AV Cable connection.
4. Manually change the Video Output Settings to HDMI. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 5 below.)
5. Now switch the "Input" or "Video" channel on the TV for the HDMI port the PLAYSTATION 3 is currently plugged into.
6. Accept the display settings for HDMI before the timer runs out (30 seconds). Highlight "Yes" and press the X button.
7. You can now disconnect AV Cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 and the TV, as it is no longer needed.
