Cannot get the handsets to pair with the base. Have tried manual. Have tried turning power off for extended power and powering on. Brand new batteries now. (Old batteries seemed to have just died. Probably how the handsets got deregistered from base.) I am thinking some code may be the answer like this: http://ostermiller.org/vtech_deregister_handsets.html or this: http://jpwhiteblog.net/2011/03/09/how-to-register-an-orphaned-att-92370-handset-to-a-different-base-station/ Any ideas?

From the manual:
1) Before registering the extra handset, the battery pack MUST be charged for 15-20
hours.
2) With the main base in standby mode, press the MENU soft key on the base.
3) Press /vol/∧ or /vol/∨ on the base to select H S R e g i s t r a t i o n, and then
press the OK soft key.
4) On the handset, press and hold # for two seconds. To cancel registration, press
the CANCEL soft key on the base.
5) While the handset is registering, H a n d s e t R e g i s t e r i n g will appear in the Handset
LCD. When R e g i s t r a t i o n C o m p l e t e is displayed, the handset has been registered
to the base. If R e g i s t r a t i o n F a i l e d appears, please try these steps again.

A search of Uniden support only said to call 1-800-297-1023 with handset registration issues. The rep picked up quickly and walked me through the reset procedure. Here it is step-by-step:
1. Remove battery
2. Hold down the * and # buttons and reinsert battery. You should hear a long beep. If not retry. (This is a bit awkward but hold the handset upside down and it's workable)
3. Screen will be blank. Immediately press the right soft menu button.
4. Screen will report that EEPROM is clearing and then state EEPROM Clear Ok
5. Remove battery (yes again)
6. Reinsert battery (this time there's no need to hold down any buttons)
7. Handset will reboot with Welcome screen and then state that phone must be registered (this is the status a handset should be in from the factory)
8. Place handset on base and it will register as normal

Was looking for this for awhile as well, if you held onto them like I did the wait paid off, they must have put this up since I last looked.

Registering a Handset
If you see a "not registered" message on a handset, you must register it to a base before using it.
1. On the base, open the menu and select "Register Handset"
2. On the handset, press and hold POUND (#) until the handset display says "Handset Registering" (about 2 seconds).
3. Wait until the handset display says "Registration Complete" (about 30 seconds), then pick up the handset and press eND/CleaR.
# If you don't hear a dial tone or the display says "Registration Failed" charge the battery completely, then try again.
