With the ipod disconnected, open itunes. In settings select to NOT sync the iod wjhen it connects to the computer. Close and restart itunes. Connect the ipod.
Step 1: an itunes account ? b> An iPod is a portable media player that lets users listen to music wherever they are. Before you can listen to songs on the iPod, you must first put music onto the device. If you have been using different MP3 players in the past, adding music to an iPod can be slightly confusing. The reason for this is that iPods are not compatible with Windows Media Player, Real Player or Winamp. By using iTunes, however, you can add music to any iPod.
• Open iTunes. • 2 Add music to iTunes. To do this, click "File." Choose "Add Folder to Library." Then, find the folder on your computer that holds the music you wish to put onto the iPod. Highlight that folder and click "OK." The music will be put into the iTunes Library. • • 3 Plug the iPod into the computer. After a few seconds, you will see the iPod listed under "Devices" on the left-hand side of iTunes. • 4 Click "Music" under the "Library" option on the left-hand side of iTunes. All of the music files in the iTunes Library will then be shown in the middle of iTunes. • 5 Double-click the album that contains the music you want to put onto the iPod. The songs on that album will then be listed. • 6 Highlight the song you want to add to the iPod. • 7 Drag that file over to the name of your iPod located under "Devices" (as mentioned in Step 3). The song will then be placed onto the iPod. Do this for all of the music you want to put onto the iPod. • 8 Click the "All Albums" button at the top of iTunes to get back to the list of albums on the iTunes Library. • 9 Repeat Steps 5-7 until you are done putting music on the iPod. • 10 Disconnect the player when you are done.
What exactly is going wrong? Are you getting any specific error messages?

I would recommend making sure each desired song is selected by Checking the check box next to the songs. If this is already done and the songs still will not go onto the ipod; make sure they play in itunes. I hope this is just the answer you needed. If not please do let me know
Hi,
I am assuming you are a new user with your ipod.
You can play and view your music on the ipod only if you transfer the files thru itunes.
You can go to the apple website or download.com and download itunes.
After downloading it.Install the software and add your music onto your ipod through itunes.
Now your ipod will recognise all the songs you add.
IT WILL WORK.HAVE FUN.
and if i helped u solve ur problem in any way...please help me by clicking on the fixya rating.. thank you.
Control Panel. Add/Remove programs, Select Itunes. Computer may want to restart.
Reinstall ITunes. Computer may restart.
Go into ITunes. Select add folder. Select your mp3 folder from your H drive. Library will rebuild and for that many songs it will take about 30 minutes to do. Make sure that when you purchase new songs that the folder is mapped to your external hard drive as well. I made that mistake of not doing it and it made a big mess.
Make sure your IPod is set for manual music management.
Click on one of your purchased songs from ITunes and login to your account using your ITunes user id and password. That will enable you to play your purchased musice from ITunes. If you have activated your ITunes account to play on more than 5 computers, you will have to get a hold of tech support to reset your computer count.
The way around this problem is to burn your downloads on itunes onto a CD (which automatically converts the format). This can be done through itunes. You can then rip the songs off the CD using media player and then transfer them onto your MP3 player as per normal.
