I have the same problem with a 5 year old Ultimate G. I can usually get it to come on by loosening the belt with the lever on the front under the light cover. It seems to be getting worse though and takes longer to get it to come on.I have the same problem with a 5 year old Ultimate G. That sometimes happens to vacuums that have thermal switch (usually soldiered onto the motor field) but Kirby does not have such switch so I would blame one of 3 things: 1 - cord. Even though it may look good it may have wires broken inside. 2 - OUTER bag is not installed right or is a bit worn and is loose. It does not press the safety switch well at all times. 3 - faulty power switch. There is only 1 switch inside of the Kirby with few levers. It is a bit more complicated to replace it though (I have instructions with pictures if anyone cares to see them) Would LOVE to know if there is something else that causes it.

Hi There, The most common problem by far is that the cord is faulty. This is a pretty easy repair to do at home. If your machine was randomly cutting out before it stopped altogether then the cord is likely the culprit. If however it stopped all of a sudden with no warning then it is possibly a switch or motor issue which is a much harder repair to achieve for a novice. The kirby cords are not terribly expensive (and I have linked a how to video showing how its done) so if you need a new one I would say DIY is the go, otherwise spend the $25 get a pro to take a look.
You must take of the plastic ends from the wood beater bar and make sure the metal axels are not wound up with hair. I did this monthly with 4daughters
could be caused by bad bearings in the motor or bad carbon brushes and a worn commotator on the armature. check the cord where it connects to the top of the handle on the swivelling strain relief. usually the cord fails there .

Problem: I lost my manual. How do I use my vacuum on hard wood floors? How do I use attachments, where do they attach? Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Kirby Ultimate Diamond Edition You can cal the Kirby factory to request a new owner’s manual and they will describe how to use the vacuum on hardwood floors. There is a felt piece as wide as the brushroll area that will clip on to the bottom of the revolving brush area so that you hard wood floors don’t get scratched. The Kirby head will dial off and the Kirby head will come off and the attachment hose will connect to the front of the Kirby and that is how you use the attachments. I have the same problem and I thought that it might be the on/off switch, but now I have doubts.
